My approach to therapy is based on the following: 1. The capacity for growth and healing is innate and hardwired. 2. All behavior serves a purpose. As a result of some life experiences, we may resort to what become maladaptive strategies to try to manage our pain. 3. Maladaptive coping patterns can be changed. 4. Change is scary and uncomfortable, but people are resilient.
While the majority of my work is with individuals healing from trauma and its impacts, I have experience working with a wide variety of clients including those with substance use issues, anxiety, depression, body image difficulties, and grief. I approach clients with an integrative therapeutic approach and am EMDR trained.
I believe when we are able to see ourselves as capable of changing our circumstances in a positive way, we can learn to tolerate the discomfort of change to promote a better experience of living. With a genuinely curious approach, I encourage clients to explore, "What happened?" so they can answer, "What next?"
