Sometimes we walk through life feeling like we aren't good enough, like an imposter, disconnected from ourselves and others. We can experience distress to the point that it's hard to enjoy the moment and successfully move through our day. Sometimes we can't explain why we feel the way we do, and we might tell ourselves we're 'broken'. When we suffer like this, it's possible that there's a connection to your family's past and this wounding happened to someone other than yourself. My goal is to help you unpack these feelings, come to understand what is yours and what may be inherited, and move toward resolution and healing.

You feel capable of more, but negative self-talk holds you back. You project a positive image to the world, but inside you feel like you're not enough. I specialize in working with adults who struggle with anxiety related to self-esteem, imposter syndrome, perfectionism and people-pleasing tendencies. We will explore how your unconscious feelings and patterns are impacting you and your relationships so that you can start to feel more agency over your life. With the clarity of understanding who you are, where you come from, and what activates you, you can begin to feel more comfortable in your own skin.

Feeling stuck, misunderstood, alone, or confused happens to most everyone at different points in life. It is normal to feel overwhelmed by challenging and painful emotions such as anger, fear, sadness, anxiety, shame, or feeling numb. Many turn to unhealthy coping methods such as abuse of alcohol or drugs, isolating from family or friends, lashing out at loved ones, avoiding our responsibilities, or acting out in self-destructive ways. Often, these feelings and behaviors worsen when one lacks a safe space to share and process through these issues and emotions. My intention is to hold a safe space for you to process your experiences.

No one goes unscathed in this life, and sometimes we need help from a professional. My job is to provide a safe place to begin the path of psychotherapy. I have 26 years of experience providing psychotherapy to clients with a variety of challenges. I listen, provide support, empathize and care for my clients. Often we feel that we have not been heard or seen in a deep way. I aim to offer a different and corrective experience and help clients gain insight and change behaviors.

As a lawyer-turned-therapist, I know the power of a good question. My clients are anxious professionals who have taken all the “right” steps only to wonder why they aren’t feeling satisfied. They share that I have helped them work through anxiety, insomnia, or stress from high-intensity careers. I enjoy helping people find sustainable work-life balance, in addition to moving through grief and loss. Whether it be the loss of a loved one, a career, or way of life, I can be a strong partner for you. My pragmatic approach is tailored and collaborative, helping you identify and implement strategies to both resolve and prevent problems.

Countless clients have expressed this frustration to me: “I know I do this, and I know why I do it. But that hasn’t stopped me from doing it! I’ve been in therapy for ages. What am I doing wrong?” If this sounds like you, you’ve come to the right place. Although developing insight into your challenges is a great first step toward healing, unfortunately, it cannot transform your life because of one hard fact: you cannot out-think your pain!

I received my BA with Honors from Brown University and my master’s from Boston College. I acquired my clinical training at McLean Hospital, Harvard Medical School’s largest psychiatric affiliate, in the division of Anxiety & Mood Disorders. I also trained at the OCD Institute, the nation’s first and foremost treatment center for obsessive-compulsive disorder. I help adults with anxiety and OCD move past the “what if's” and live life with confidence and trust. Most of my clients have OCD themes that center on identity, sexuality, morality, relationships, and harm (“Pure O”). I also treat couples struggling with communication issues.

Many of my clients are young(ish) adults, who have relocated to the LA area for work, school or a relationship . It can be helpful to have someone other than friends or family to talk with about personal struggles. Some of the challenges we might address include coping with life transitions, finding and maintaining friendships and relationships, increasing communication skills, managing depression and anxiety, self care, and self compassion. Let me help you to find balance and increase your coping skills in a safe, warm, non-judgmental and confidential space. I am in network with Cigna Evernorth and will bill any PPO directly.

People come to therapy at all different points in their life. Whether you're returning to better understand a new situation or coming for the first time to explore opportunities for growth, I am here to meet you where you're at. In my experience, people seek change when they are not fully aligned with the person they want to be. Our work together will be to identify these misalignments, to learn how to empathize with how they came to be, and to find strategies for letting go of things that that no longer serve in order to find a sense of self we can feel proud of.

Hi, I'm Sahaja. I have been a licensed psychotherapist since 2001. I have experience working with clients dealing with a wide range of issues and how we work together will depend on your goals for therapy. Some clients want to explore their issues from a place of deep introspection and some clients want solutions to a specific problem. Whether your issues are related to relationships, ADHD, loss and grief, parenting issues, anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, trauma, serious medical issues, or something else, we can discuss your goals and issues in a free initial 15 minute consultation to see if we are a good fit for your therapy

During challenging times, a lot that we've taken for granted - health, finances, career, dating - may feel precarious, doomed even. I help people identify any "thinking" obstacles you may have, in order to push past limiting assumptions or sabotaging beliefs. In a therapeutic relationship, you and I work towards acceptance and empowered management of challenges, expanding your tools and freeing up space. Trained in Cognitive Behavioral (CBT), Interpersonal Therapies (IPT) and IFS therapies, I also pull from traditional psychodynamic theory (including attachment) and mindfulness approaches to help facilitate your desired change.

Jewish Therapists

Why is it important for a therapist to be culturally sensitive?

Therapists and clients don’t need to share the same background to be able to work together, but a therapist whose training includes a focus on cultural competence may be better able to form a therapeutic bond with individuals from a range of backgrounds, as they will have experience tailoring their approach to each client—and will be prepared to acknowledge and consider the effects of cultural forces, such as discrimination, that may contribute to that client’s concerns. With a professional who has such training, a client should feel comfortable discussing sensitive issues without feeling that they need to self-censor.

How can I recognize an effective Jewish therapist?

As with members of any religious or ethnic group, just because two people happen to be Jewish does not guarantee that they will share the same values, knowledge, or experiences. A Jewish client seeking a therapist who shares their cultural identity, or for whom it’s important that a therapist share their religious beliefs, may want to discuss a professional’s Jewish background with them before beginning therapy. For someone who seeks justification for major life changes in their religious tradition, or in biblical writings, finding a therapist who is comfortable framing guidance in that context may be especially valuable.

Would a Jewish therapist have unique training?

No, but they should have the same training and certification as any other mental health professional, as well as experience with a range of evidence-based techniques such as cognitive-behavioral therapy or mindfulness-based therapy. A therapist with this type of experience should be able to help any client feel comfortable and safe, which is essential for a therapeutic alliance. Once this is established, a potential client may want to find out more about the therapist’s Jewish background.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience with Jewish clients?

A client can directly ask a therapist if they have extensive experience working with Jewish clients and if so, whether these individuals sought counseling for faith-related issues or marital or familial issues in which their Jewish background was a factor. A client may also wish to ask a potential therapist whether they incorporate Jewish teachings and values into their own professional work.

Who is included in Psychology Today’s directory of Jewish therapists?

The directory of Jewish therapists includes professionals who have opted to share their cultural background on their profiles. However, not all therapists choose to disclose their background, and they may not appear in search results for this reason. The directory also shows therapists who indicate that they have extensive experience working with Jewish clients and/or communities.
