I have had experience with a very wide range of folks that I've liked to work with and have found all of that work valuable and fulfilling. I think I am hoping to work with folks who are curious and open about themselves or at least would like to be. Therapy can be hard work at times and without that curiousness it can be hard to sit with those tough times. I think all folks coming into therapy are hoping to get better which I think is the earliest sign of hope in this process.
I have been working in mental health for 9 years and have worked with a number of communities. I specialized in geriatric and neurological (often TBI) psychotherapy at Hopkins and have had extensive work with folks with disabilities and complex medical issues. I have worked with people through significant life transitions and always found this rewarding.
Here's the cliche where I mention that starting therapy can be scary and choosing a therapist even scarier. It's definitely true but I know it doesn't have to be; it can be fun and beautiful. This work means a lot to me and the folks I've been working with and I treat it with the respect that it deserves and can promise you to do the same.
