We are not meant to live in isolation. From the moment we are born, our identity and sense of self is tied in with those around us. Over time, it may shift from parents to peer groups to intimate partners, but how we interact with others is at the core of our emotional well-being. Parenting comes with a unique set of questions, self-doubt, and high stakes. For many of us, it may activate unresolved hurt or resentment from our own childhood or invite feelings of inadequacy and uncertainty. Our intimate relationships are another significant part of our lives. Clients can learn how to connect, improve understanding, and strengthen their intimate relationships by moving past the cycles that break down communication and build walls of hurt and defensiveness. Couples can re-establish that “spark,” share a vision of a connected future, and feel both valued and validated by their partners. Experiencing trauma impacts our ability to connect with and receive connection from others. Sometimes we get so stuck in that trauma that it shifts our view of the world and can permanently alter our perception. Therapy is a place to process through this experience, so you can move forward with life.
I specialize in communication, connection, identity and a sense of self as we navigate the changes and challenges in our relationships. I am trained in EFT, one of the most evidence-based approaches to couples therapy, and Family EFT, which focuses on parenting and parent-child interactions in a family unit. I am also a trauma informed therapist, meaning I have extensive training, including EMDR, DBT and body based therapies, to come along side and support you in a way that works for you. Together, we will explore you specific situation and work towards making the changes you're seeking.
Entering therapy can be a difficult decision. You're not sure where to start, whether it is going to be a good fit, or what to expect from therapy. In our initial appointment, we will talk about your goals and what you hope to have different as a result. I'll work with you to create a plan to achieve those results. I am warm and accepting of where you are in your journey and what your life experiences have been, while also balancing your desires to make change or come to a deeper understanding or acceptance of something. I am direct when necessary, while creating a safe space to do the work.
