Change is possible. Being a human is hard and frequently the roles we learned growing up can trap us. Together we develop strategies so you can experiment with new roles and behaviors. It takes time to unlearn habits developed over a lifetime; habits that may have worked very well in the past. Life is about growth. People come to therapy because they or those they love are in pain. My hope is to help you move towards more freedom, choice, and play. A therapist is only as good as the work they continue to do with their own family. I do the same work for self that I recommend to others.
I will collect a lot of family history. This is so we can stay alert to how emotions are dictating your relationships. Theory suggests that if we can identify the patterns we use, we will have more ability to choose our behavior, rather than react blindly. I use EMDR, (when appropriate), to treat symptoms that may not be responding to "talk" therapy.
I can provide you with executable steps if you choose to use them. All change initially leads to higher anxiety. But as we practice we gain more flexibility, and more expertise. Therapy is meant to generate new ideas. Hopefully it inspires many questions. Please don't hesitate to ask. I look forward to speaking with you.
