The events of the world around us present new challenges too uncertain and too fast for mastery. And though the challenges may be unfamiliar, the self that experiences them may be all too familiar, as we experience a resurgence of old worries and tensions. Sometimes a crisis in our lives presents an opportunity to grow, as we find our old patterns no longer work for us.
Having a space to talk and to be listened to can help us to listen empathically to ourselves. I'm interested in helping people become more self-aware in an empathic way, that allows us to reduce the self -criticism that makes us defensive and blaming of others.
I work with individuals and couples, and with ages from late adolescence to old age. I've worked with communities from rural poverty, to Harvard University Health Services from which I retired as Chief Psychologist. I'm described as a therapist who is warm and mature with an active style and good sense of humor.
