My name is James Velasquez, and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) based in Bakersfield, California, working with clients statewide via telehealth. I work with adults and specialize in depression, anxiety, grief, addiction, and many other behavioral health conditions. I believe every person has the innate capacity to learn, grow, and overcome any of the challenges in life with appropriate guidance and support. As your therapist, my job is to help you identify concerns, barriers, and goals. It's important that I understand your background and what brings you to therapy in order for us to collaboratively develop goals.
I generally work with adults who are learning to cope with depression, anxiety, grief, and addictive disorders. I also have many years of experience working with individuals living with more serious behavioral health conditions such as bipolar disorder, and schizophrenia as well.
I have an open and non-judgmental communication style and want my clients to feel safe and comfortable. Seeking help is a strength that should be validated, and it's important for my clients to know it. Many of my clients have told me they find it easy to open up with me because they feel heard and safe.
