Dr. McElligot's approach integrates a variety of modalities to meet the needs of each client and develop individualized plans that will match the unique goals each person brings into the therapy room. He has backgrounds in cognitive behavioral, acceptance and commitment, psychodynamic, humanistic/existential, and mindfulness based approaches and strategies. He also provides trauma-focused treatments including Cognitive Processing Therapy, Prolonged Exposure, Written Exposure Therapy, and Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. Dr. McElligott provides individual, couples, group, and family therapy.
He also has a strong passion in working with the LGBTQA community and has worked with LGBTQA children, adolescents, young adults/college students, adults, and older adults. He welcomes opportunities to integrate the family into treatment and has also worked with parents who have children in the LGBTQA community.
In addition, he has experience and training in providing hormone therapy evaluations and gender-affirming surgery evaluations for transgender clients. He values the opportunity to work with each client to help them tell their story, build on their strengths, and develop new tools and skills to meet their goals.
