I also teach techniques which often immediately reduce anxiety/ induce relaxation/relieve stress/bring relief/increase self-esteem/ease trauma and change how you look at/experience life in a more easy/effortless/enjoyable way.
What? Me . . . traumatized? Surely it's not as bad as . .someone else and their experience. Trauma comes in many forms and disguises. The back part of the brain subconsciously feels we are in a battle or there's a bear in the cave. Our defenses/ways of coping and triggers arise in ways that aren't helpful or productive/controllable. Reactions/responses seem to come from out of nowhere. These can be signs/symptoms of depression, anxiety, and overwhelm. All can be addressed and shifted in counseling, particularly through EMDR. I am certified in that field and have found it to be life-changing for many.

Repeated negative outcomes may also manifest in anxiety and depression.
I feel honored to walk alongside you during your journey to holistic wellness. Often life’s circumstances redirect our desired purpose. Trauma is one such circumstance. A traumatic past often leads to unhealthy interpretation of the motivations of others. This often hinders fully obtaining and maintaining positive interpersonal connections. Could yesterday’s trauma unknowingly, and unconsciously keep you in a state of maladaptive feelings/behaviors such as low self-esteem, anxiety, anger, guilt, shame, depression, jealousy, or perfectionism? Has your family of origin or upbringing created schemas that perpetuate these feelings?

I am certified in Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR), a modality used for trauma and anxiety.
My career started as a therapist working with clients in recovery from substance use disorders. As my work progressed, I realized that excessive substance use was merely a coping mechanism for those suffering from mental health challenges, such as social anxiety, general anxiety, family discord, childhood abandonment or abuse, low self esteem, difficult relationships, parenting issues, transitions, retirement, past trauma and more. I am passionate about helping clients find relief from narcissistic family members, partners or colleagues, in particular. Thus, the scope of my work includes a broad range of mental health issues.

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?
Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.
How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?
The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.
When should I seek treatment for anxiety?
Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.
How effective is treatment for anxiety?
Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
