I can help clients with school-based behavioral issues, grief/ loss, depression, anxiety, relationship issues, foster process for children, family therapy, trauma, adjustment disorders, and parenting.
The ups and downs of life can cause issues, which if not addressed, can cause mental health problems. Therapy is a place to learn how to transform our internal dialogue during those challenging times in our life. It can mean confronting what we have typically avoided, in a safe and reaffirming environment where science-based interventions reinforce resiliency. I believe that empathy and compassion combined with evidence-based interventions can help you develop coping skills that facilitate growth to your person-centered goals. I use a gentle, non-judgmental, but direct approach, and provide a confidential and respectful environment.

I'm trained in multiple therapies including EMDR, which is helpful for trauma, anxiety, anger, and grief.
Do you know what I struggle with? A lot. I struggle with a lot because I'm human. My personal history involves quite a bit of trauma, abandonment, significant loss, chronic pain, and grief. For many of us, life tends to be an ongoing struggle, with moments of joy, beauty, and love sprinkled in. The only way I've been able to overcome the dark times, and my own self-destructive behavior born out of pain and suffering, is because I've had some amazing people and counselors who've helped me through the most difficult seasons. It's crucial to have someone walk with you when things get messy.

My areas of specialty include anxiety, depression, coping with new, chronic and/or complex medical issues, life transitions, and grief and loss.
One of the things that is most important to me in any relationship is authenticity. We want to know that we are able to form trusting and honest connections with others. I think this is true in any relationships but has special importance in the therapeutic relationship. I want to learn about who you really are and what it is you value. I work well with those who are willing to be open and a little uncomfortable in order to make meaningful changes. In therapy, we share a stance of curiosity. I have found that when we replace judgement with this curiosity, we can make the meaningful changes we desire.

It’s so easy in this day and age to lose sight of one’s self and wake up one day and not recognize the person in the mirror. It’s my passion to come alongside those individuals or couples that have lost their way in life and need a listening ear or a fresh perspective. I firmly believe that every dry and painful season of life can be a springboard into hope for the next. It does not matter who you are, what’s been done or what you have done, there is hope.

We all go through seasons in our lives where it would be beneficial to have someone come along side and help us get out of our own muck. I work with a variety of people but particularly like helping people get past traumatic events or to have better relationships with others.

How long does therapy take for grief?
There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.
When should you seek therapy for grief?
Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.
Can grief be managed without therapy?
Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.
What happens if grief is left untreated?
Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
