I have experience with relationship issues, adjustment, college concerns, men's/women's issues, and affirming care for gender and sexual minorities.
I believe therapy is a powerful path to truly knowing yourself, and this is a journey that requires courage, self-compassion, and empathetic support. I commend you for taking that first step. I am committed to creating a safe and affirming space for you to reflect and explore your identity, issues, relationships, and emotions on your way to insight, healing, and personal growth. Healthy connections with ourselves and others are an essential part of emotional wellness, and I strive to foster an environment in which these relationships can grow, starting with a collaborative therapeutic relationship.

I practice client-centered, psychodynamic therapy with individuals, couples, and groups to address symptoms of depression, anxiety, mood disorders, relationship dysfunction, and/or addiction. I employ integrative, strengths-based approaches to assist individuals in coping with current manifestations, and exploring and resolving issues which may have evolved circumstantially, temporarily presenting a barrier to an otherwise strong sense of overall well-being.

It can be a daunting task to find a therapist, let alone a therapist you can connect with. I commend those who have taken these challenging first steps in their mental health journey and who are ready to face their challenges with a trusted professional. My style is active with gentle direction, and I encourage self-compassion to my clients to promote healing. I feel that the therapeutic relationship is the most important aspect of treatment, and I encourage openness throughout our sessions together. I work best with a client who is open to homework outside of session and who is looking to make meaning out of their experience.

I am a LCSW with over 20 years experience working with clients experiencing depression, anxiety, grief and loss, relationship issues, women’s issues, and stress.
Oftentimes, the origin of our individual emotional struggles are not always apparent to us. We can become alarmed when these struggles begin to impact on our day to day living and relationships. It is then that clients most often begin to reach out for therapy to gain further insight into their thoughts, actions, and feelings. Distorted thinking patterns can fuel low self esteem and affect every area in a persons life. A once used defense mechanism may no longer be useful or beneficial to your mental health and once identified can be discussed in therapy and clients can learn more adaptive ways of coping.

My job is not to force a client to tell me everything immediately, but at their own pace after a trusting relationship is established.
Over the years, I’ve worked with clients from ages 12 to a 106. Although I hold a special place in my heart for adolescents struggling with anxiety, depression, and self-worth issues, I also enjoy working with adults. My aim is to help people who are feeling isolated, know they are not alone; assist people who are feeling hopeless, realize there’s always hope; and help people who are feeling paralyzed by shame, experience healing through self-compassion.

I see clients ages 12+ with various diagnoses/needs, including anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship struggles, grief/loss, and identity development.
First, great job being here! Finding a counselor is an important task, and finding one that matches your needs is even more important. I am so appreciative that you are here. I might be a good match for you if: you are interested in working with a counselor that will take a collaborative journey with you, that will listen, challenge, and validate you, and will sprinkle in a bit of humor (when the time is right). I believe we strive to be our best selves, but we don’t always know what ‘best selves’ mean; that is where I come in!

Relationship Issues Therapists
While need for human connection appears to be innate, the ability to form healthy, loving relationships is learned. Some evidence suggests that the ability to form a stable relationship starts to form in infancy, in a child's earliest experiences with a caregiver who reliably meets the infant's needs for food, care, warmth, protection, stimulation, and social contact. Such relationships are not destiny, but they are theorized to establish deeply ingrained patterns of relating to others. The end of a relationship, however, is often a source of great psychological anguish.
