Feeling nervous about starting therapy? Completely normal! You're making a huge step to work on yourself, process trauma, and open up about things you’ve never shared before. Having a safe and comfortable therapeutic relationship to help navigate these feelings is key to successful treatment. I hope we can achieve that together. My style is relaxed, supportive, and nonjudgemental. I believe in meeting people where they are. I have over 15 years of experience working with children, adolescents, and adults. I specialize in working with trauma, anxiety, depression, ADHD, PTSD, parenting, and relationship issues.

I have experience with CBT, DBT, solution focused therapy, behavioral therapy, and play therapy, working with both groups and individuals.
Adverse Childhood Experiences are common. According to the CDC, about 61% of adults surveyed reported they experienced at least one traumatic event before the age of 18. Therapy is one of many tools that can be used to help prevent the long lasting impacts of trauma. That’s where I come in.

I use CBT, DBT, and Solution Focused work, using mindfulness, breathing techniques, visualization, and goal setting to help clients reach their short and long-term goals.
My ideal client is someone who comes to therapy in a time of need. They might be experiencing anxiety due to life changes and transitions or they might be experiencing symptoms of anxiety for the first time and be concerned as to where the anxiety came from. The client might be processing loss or grief from a loved one or past friendships and or relationships. My ideal client will have needs such as needing to identify coping skills to get through life stressors, assistance with reaching goals. As a therapist I would be able to provide the client with a objective perspective to bounce their ideas and situations off of.

I mainly utilize Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, and Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, along with teaching and implementing appropriate coping skills in order to make progress.
Hi! My name is Jessica and I am originally from Atlanta, GA and attended the University of Georgia (Go Dawgs!) where I received a bachelor’s degree in Communications. I worked for several years in the nonprofit development field before deciding that I wanted to return to school part time to pursue a Masters of Social Work degree. During this time, I lived and worked in inner city Philadelphia, Washington D.C. and then did some rural social service work in Central Pennsylvania. These different experiences have impacted the way I view therapy today. I believe in a person-centered approach to therapy and meeting clients where they are.

I use client-centered and holistic approaches to treat the whole person including CBT, DBT, EMDR, ART (Accelerated Resolution Therapy).
Note: Others in my collaborative practice are taking new clients. It is my belief that everyone can benefit from counseling, and it takes a strong person to seek out assistance when needed. I believe we are not made to live in isolation, and we do best when we are part of a community. By recognizing the events that have formed us in life, we can learn from them and become a better version of ourselves. In order for this process to take place, I strive to create a comfortable and safe environment that supports increased insight and growth.

I utilize techniques of play therapy, CBT, DBT, structural and strategic on a daily basis.
I have a passion for working with children, teenagers, and entire family systems. Improving communication skills, navigating life transitions, and developing adequate coping mechanisms are just a few of the many topics I enjoy focusing on within the therapeutic setting. I have a family-centered approach, meaning I aim to include families in sessions with their children and/or teenagers as much as possible. I'm a firm believer that you can only see so much change in a child or teenager's life if they aren't allowing their family to work through those changes with them.

I have already counseled my ideal client. I worked with a client who came to me in her most significant time of need. She was ready to put in work and wanted to develop. She was diagnosed with Bipolar I and had several suicide attempts. She could externalize her mania and use fitness and wellness to push through her episodes. She is happy and healthy and uses her experiences to help others. My services involve psychotherapy using techniques such as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT), and motivational interviewing (MI), with a trauma-informed framework.

There could be elements of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical, Narrative, or any number of modalities that can be tailored specifically for you.
One of the most difficult things we can experience is in not knowing what comes next. Maybe you feel lost, confused, or broken - that some part of you is missing, and the daily struggle to keep it together for yourself or your loved ones feels impossibly overwhelming. Maintaining the obligations of family, work, and friendships can be so exhausting that it seems easier to avoid them altogether. Maybe you’ve considered therapy before, but thought it was too expensive, time consuming, or worry you might be seen as "weak." But how would it feel to find yourself again? To stop, catch your breath, and learn to find peace among the chaos?

Dialectical Behavior (DBT) Therapists

Who is DBT for?

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is designed for people who experience extreme emotional suffering because they lack the skills of emotion regulation and distress tolerance. The basic affliction can underlie a wide range of conditions, from borderline and other personality disorders to PTSD and treatment-resistant anxiety and depression. The therapy is helpful to those whose emotional reactivity is so intense it is disruptive to everyday functioning and leads to frequent crises.

Why do people need DBT?

The ability to regulate emotions is a core psychological skill that enables people to function in life and pay attention to the world outside themselves; it is consistently associated with well-being. DBT is designed to help people learn how to manage and regulate their emotions. Originally developed to treat people with borderline personality disorder whose extreme emotional suffering led to self-harming behavior and suicide attempts, the therapy is now applied to other conditions involving emotion dysregulation, particularly when other treatments have failed.

What happens in DBT?

Individuals meet weekly with their therapist to discuss their experiences relating to moods, behavior, and skills. Using checklists they maintain, they review emotional experiences and positive practices they engage in. The diaries help individuals discern what led up to a specific problem encountered, this is followed by discussion of the consequences of their actions. In addition, individuals may meet in class-like small groups to learn skills such as mindfulness, emotion regulation and distress tolerance.

How long does DBT last?

Because it is intended to establish long-lasting behavioral change among those with persistent problems, DBT is designed to last six months to a year. DBT includes both weekly sessions of individual therapy and weekly skills-training sessions conducted in small groups. Studies of DBT have documented improvement within a year of treatment, particularly in controlling self-harmful behavior; nevertheless, individuals may require therapy for several years.
