Some of my specialty areas are Anxiety, Depression, Trauma and PTSD, Self-esteem, OCD, Domestic Violence, and Child Emotional Neglect. Are you struggling with self-esteem, self-trust, shame, and guilt, which is why change does not occur? I provide psychoeducation to all clients to help them recognize why change is so difficult and understand how the mind works. An ideal client takes notes and follows through on exercises throughout the week. There are 160 hours in a week, and as a therapist, I only see you 1 hour a week, which means work outside of a therapy session is key to making positive changes in your life.

All humans experience pain and stress in life along with the propensity to become entangled in distressing thoughts, emotions, and physical sensations when challenges arise. This often leads to perceptions, interactions, behaviors, and decisions that add further distress to both the mind and body. I attempt to facilitate increased mindfulness through improved insight, awareness, compassion, non-judgment and decreased entanglement in the distressing internal dialogue. I incorporate various theoretical perspectives including mindfulness, person-centered, cognitive and cognitive behavioral as I attempt to guide individuals toward increased inner peace.

Life can feel overwhelming and difficult to navigate at times. The thoughts that consume your day, feeling hopeless that the pain will never go away, and the uncertainty of how to transition through this period can make you feel stuck. My goal is to help you gain insight and awareness along with learn new strategies and coping skills to navigate through these difficult times. I also understand how important it is to provide an environment where you feel heard, supported, and understood in order to facilitate these changes and feel confident in applying these techniques within your life.

If you are searching for a safe and supportive space where you can explore and process painful experiences, change damaging behaviors, and create new ways of acting and relating, then look no further. Do you experience any of the following: grief, sadness, or shame that just won’t go away; struggle with an inability to stop binge shopping, eating, drinking, gambling, gaming or using social media; have crippling fears and “what if” thoughts that prevent you from doing the things you really want to do; or get triggered and leap into fight, flight, freeze or shut down for no clear reason?

Did you know that perinatal mood and anxiety disorders are the most common complication of childbirth? I believe that the journey of becoming a parent is both joyful and challenging. Many of us are also dealing with added stressors like sensory and information overload, not enough support, hormone changes, fussy babies, unsolicited advice, work-life balance, symptoms of depression or anxiety, and more.

Obsessive-Compulsive (OCD) Therapists

How long does OCD treatment take?

Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is often treated on a weekly or twice-weekly schedule, depending on symptom severity and the client’s preferences. Some clients may start to see a noticeable improvement in symptoms in as little as six weeks, but it’s also possible, especially in more severe cases, for treatment to take several months to a year before significant progress is made.

What happens if OCD is not treated?

Some people with OCD, especially those with mild symptoms, may find that they are able to adapt reasonably well to life with the condition, even if their symptoms never resolve completely. However, many people, particularly those whose symptoms are severe at the outset, find that their obsessions and compulsions grow more intrusive with time, making it harder to maintain relationships, hold down a job, or navigate the world successfully.

Are there medications for OCD?

Medication can be used to treat OCD. The class of drugs most often prescribed are selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, or SSRIs, which include fluvoxamine (under the brand name Luvox), fluoxetine (Prozac), and sertraline (Zoloft), among others. In cases of treatment-resistant OCD, other classes of medication, such as tricyclic antidepressants or atypical antipsychotics, may be prescribed. Medication is frequently used in conjunction with therapy.

Can OCD come back after treatment?

Yes. Major life transitions, periods of stress, or other factors can cause symptoms to return or, if they were never fully eradicated, to ramp back up in intensity. For some, these relapses are brief and do not require additional treatment; identifying specific triggers and practicing the skills learned in therapy can help speed their course. For others, returning to therapy for a brief period can help address the underlying stress and strengthen coping mechanisms.
