I help people who are struggling at work, who feel like work must be easier for everyone else, and kids and other students of all ages who have ADHD or trouble learning. I also help middle-aged people with memory problems who want to prevent dementia and Alzheimer's Disease. My other main focus areas are traumatic brain injury, post-concussion syndrome, Bell's Palsy, and panic attacks. I have had amazing results. I understand that this sounds too good to be true - that's what I thought at first, too. Call if you would like an appointment for a free consultation.

The counseling process can and should involve exploring goals and needs. It is ok to have an idea of how counseling can help, and it's okay to let me help you explore that topic. Not everyone knows what they want or why. And, sometimes, what we want and need changes. The ideal client is willing to show up and do some exploring.

My therapy space is designed to help clients explore, notice, and align with their needs and values, through further processing of internal and external experiences. The ideal client is on a journey to better understand self, others, and the world around them. Maybe they have some past trauma impacting functioning, or maybe the current season feels really hard and overwhelming. We offer deep curiosity about what healing looks like moving forward in life. I work with clients who feel stuck and overwhelmed by negative experiences (traumas). Trauma often manifests as physical symptoms you don't understand or emotions that shut you down when you least expect it. Maybe you feel numb or can't seem to stop feeling too much. Difficulty with memory and attention are often side affects of a person trying to mange life under great amounts of stress. Feelings of overwhelmed, anxiety, depression, and irritability, anger and even physical pain are our mind's way of saying something is wrong.

Some of my specialty areas are Anxiety, Depression, Trauma and PTSD, Self-esteem, OCD, Domestic Violence, and Child Emotional Neglect. Are you struggling with self-esteem, self-trust, shame, and guilt, which is why change does not occur? I provide psychoeducation to all clients to help them recognize why change is so difficult and understand how the mind works. An ideal client takes notes and follows through on exercises throughout the week. There are 160 hours in a week, and as a therapist, I only see you 1 hour a week, which means work outside of a therapy session is key to making positive changes in your life.

Do you sometimes feel like your nervous system is failing you? Do you have emotional (or physical) symptoms that you suspect are rooted in some kind of shock, ongoing conflict, or trauma? Do you feel like you are constantly in "fight or flight" mode and wonder if you will ever be able to truly rest? Many of my clients have sought help from MDs, and even alternative health practitioners, only to discover the source of their pain and exhaustion was untreated trauma. But I would love to tell you, there is hope: there is treatment for shock and trauma.

Does it matter what gender my therapist is?
In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.
Should I see a female therapist?
Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.
Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?
Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.
How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?
It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
