Those currents might include, dealing with blended parenting, living in the aftermath of trauma or crisis, grief/loss or in strengthening and finding fresh fulfillment in your relationships.
One of the staples of life is change. Change can be viewed as a positive or in a not-so-positive manner. Change affects us not only in relation to events but in how we perceive each other. For over 32 years, I have walked alongside individuals and families through change. Change pulls at the core of who we are and often in this tug-of-war, we find ourselves frustrated, lost, feeling helpless and with major questions. Let's journey through these questions together.

It’s hard to remember a time you weren’t in survival mode. No matter what you do, nothing is making a difference. Things from your past might keep popping up & derailing your day, and with everything else going on, you don’t even feel like you know yourself anymore. Therapy before this might have even felt like it only scraped the surface, leaving you alone to try and figure out what to do next. It’s exhausting & the crazy thing is, nobody would even guess you’re feeling this way because you’ve got this image of “having it all together,” but deep down you know the cracks are getting bigger. Something has to change, but what?

Ongoing life stressors and traumatic events can leave us feeling disoriented and destabilized. Being confronted with difficult choices can leave us feeling stuck in a feedback loop or "analysis paralysis." Therapy can support you with identity exploration, navigating change, and making sense of past and current experiences.

You're overwhelmed, on edge, and feeling like you've failed...again. People around you don't seem to notice, but inside you're crumbling. You replay your conversations and try to figure out what went wrong. No matter how well you do, it feels like you're disappointing someone. You beat yourself up about your mistakes. You lay awake thinking about how to solve your problems. You've tried self-help, considered medication, and even been to therapy, but you're spinning your wheels. You're motivated and ready to do whatever it takes to conquer anxiety and find confidence in your abilities.

We all have the potential to succeed and solve problems; but, life is sometimes difficult and we experience roadblocks. Reaching out for assistance takes courage and is a sign of strength. The counseling process is challenging and can be risky (it can bring up painful memories or emotions), yet it often brings healing and growth. Ruthann finds it an honor to assist clients as they process life and find break throughs in relationships and problems.

Are you weighed down by "doing it all” and always left feeling like it’s not quite enough? Do you often feel overwhelmed and exhausted? Whether it’s parenting struggles, food and body concerns, relationship difficulties, past wounds, or all of the above, the demands of our lives can leave us frazzled and empty. Without focusing on our needs and caring for ourselves, we can become burned out, anxious, and lost. We repeat patterns of behavior in our relationships that don’t serve us anymore and keep us stuck.

Grief Therapists

How long does therapy take for grief?

There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.

When should you seek therapy for grief?

Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.

Can grief be managed without therapy?

Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.

What happens if grief is left untreated?

Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
