The hardest part of the therapeutic process is asking for help. Taking those first, but necessary steps, can be exhausting. I am here to help make the transition into therapy smooth and successful. My goal as a therapist is to provide a warm, welcoming, and safe environment for my clients.

As an experienced Licensed Social Worker, I have worked extensively with children, adolescents, and adults from various backgrounds. I believe my role as a clinician is to assist others in taking control of their circumstances to achieve their own goals, thereby helping themselves and others to maximize the quality of their lives. My educational background assumes a developmental approach which explains growth, change, and consistency though the lifespan in biological, social, emotion, and cognitive areas. Developmental psychology looks at how thinking, feeling, and behavior effect one’s health and perspective.

I appreciate someone with an open heart and a willingness to explore their inner self. I value individuals who are ready to engage and connect in meaningful conversations. I know it can be hard to take the first step for help, and look for someone who is committed to their own growth and willing to collaborate in their goals. Trust, honesty, and a desire to change create a supportive connecting environment where healing and transformation can take place.

My ideal client would be someone who is geared towards helping themselves and needing guidance on how to do so. Someone who has a grasp on the importance of the client putting in the work to truly help heal themselves but needing assistance ensuring they are doing things in a healthy and emotionally intelligent fashion. Talk therapy is very important for clients who even just want to come and vent, which I believe helps the mind unclutter.

Some of my specialty areas are Anxiety, Depression, Trauma and PTSD, Self-esteem, OCD, Domestic Violence, and Child Emotional Neglect. Are you struggling with self-esteem, self-trust, shame, and guilt, which is why change does not occur? I provide psychoeducation to all clients to help them recognize why change is so difficult and understand how the mind works. An ideal client takes notes and follows through on exercises throughout the week. There are 160 hours in a week, and as a therapist, I only see you 1 hour a week, which means work outside of a therapy session is key to making positive changes in your life.

I have a passion for working with overwhelm as it manifests through anxiety, depression, relationship struggles, and disordered eating. I utilize my training in Somatic Experiencing, Jungian Psychology, and small group dynamics to empower adolescents and adults to create and lead their ideal lives. I deeply enjoy helping clients discover the love for themselves–body, mind, spirit, heart—they have been seeking elsewhere, often all their lives.

Being a human is hard work! In therapy, we can learn, grow, and play with our experiences as a team. Together, we can learn to accept and value both the amazing and difficult things that come with a rich, meaningful life. Sometimes the challenges of life get in the way of our ability to access our individual and collective power to heal. Therapy offers a space to discover the parts of us that have become burdened and lovingly invite them to reconnect with our truest selves.

You are your story, and you are more. You are strong, brave, courageous. We humans are angry, sad, confused, lonely, ashamed- can these be turned to good? We are deeply discouraged, seek forgiveness, or require a mirror to understand our need. We fear, we desire. In our noisy stimulating world we long for silence in our soul, to listen, so that we might know what we are called to do.

Seeing others heal through different therapeutic approaches is one of my greatest accomplishments in life. My goal is to create an atmosphere where people can freely express themselves without judgement or ridicule from the therapist but to aide in being the best version of themselves. My target audience are adolescent teens and adults struggling with anxiety, depression, grief, trauma, and/or any social emotional impact one may be experiencing. Using a CBT approach, my goal is to assist the client in establishing and differentiating between negative and healthy thoughts as well as see the power of behavioral change.

Self-Harming Therapists

How does therapy for self-harm work?

A person may turn to self-injury so that they can distract themselves from their stress, depression, anxiety, or upsetting circumstances. Therapy can address the cause of an individual’s suffering. A therapist can help a person understand why they may want to self-harm and help the person learn new methods of coping. A person may have poor emotion regulation, and treatment such as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) is helpful for breaking this behaviour. In addition, treatment such as dialectical behavior therapy can help a person manage their tolerance of distress.

Which therapies are best for self-harm?

Specific approaches used by professionals include cognitive behavioral, dialectical behavior, psychodynamic, and mentalisation-based therapies, among others. Cognitive behavioral and dialectical behavior therapies are common approaches for people who have painful thoughts and past traumas. These therapies help an individual cope with distress, regulate emotions, and manage impulsive urges.

Does the tendency to self-harm mean the person is suicidal?

Having this urge does not mean the individual suffers from suicidal ideation. People who want to self-injure look to distract or alleviate themselves from the pain they are experiencing. People with suicidal tendencies want to end life altogether. However, this does not mean a person with the intent to self-harm will not attempt suicide.

How often and how long are therapy sessions for self-harm?

As with any type of therapy, sessions depend on the individual. Clients may see improvement within 20 sessions, at an average of 50 minutes per session, while others may opt for 20 to 30 sessions over, maybe, a six-month period. People, especially those with co-occurring conditions like depression and anxiety, may need to continue therapy for up to 12 to 18 months.
