My approach to therapy starts with providing you a welcoming, safe and supportive atmosphere where you will have the opportunity to talk about your concerns. I am compassionate and caring, and I invite my clients to see the best in themselves and in others. I use an integrative approach drawing upon my training in family systems and cognitive/behavioral therapies, selecting what will be most helpful for each individual, couple or family. I see my role to be that of supporter, teacher, coach, guide, listening ear, and sounding board.

My approach to counseling is unique to you, the client. Every person's needs, stories, and personality are different and those factors should be taken into account when building a relationship with a counselor and establishing a treatment plan. You are the expert in your own life and have invited me to sit with you and help hold certain parts. While the work comes from you, it is my pleasure to create a space where you can be yourself and begin to heal. I understand that the healing process can be complicated, so I also encourage collaboration with other providers who serve you.

Have you felt that your words, your opinions, your feelings, frustrations, hopes and dreams have all been silenced and forced down deep within you, as you learned to believe they were no longer important? Have you been struggling to discover your purpose or to reignite a passion that once existed? Have you been distancing yourself from relationships and activities that you once embraced and found joy in?

Book with me now by clicking on my website! Glennon Doyle says, "Be messy and complicated and afraid and show up anyway." It can be really scary to reach out for help when you're feeling stuck, when you're feeling out of control, or when you simply don't like who or what you see in the mirror. This is the part where I humbly invite you to take the leap and be vulnerable. Whether you're a child dealing with behavioral or emotional difficulties, a teen dealing with anxiety or depression, or an adult dealing with the general messiness of life - I am here for you and I believe things can get better.

This is the first step on a journey of self discovery and change for a better tomorrow. Let me take this journey with you by walking beside you, and meeting you right where you are. A journey of a lifetime has countless steps, it is what we do with those steps in this moment that matter. The past is behind us, the future in front of us, and this precious moment all around us. Working together you and I will embrace this moment by engaging in mindfulness, meditation, and by starting with the most important piece-you!

Self-Harming Therapists
How does therapy for self-harm work?
A person may turn to self-injury so that they can distract themselves from their stress, depression, anxiety, or upsetting circumstances. Therapy can address the cause of an individual’s suffering. A therapist can help a person understand why they may want to self-harm and help the person learn new methods of coping. A person may have poor emotion regulation, and treatment such as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) is helpful for breaking this behaviour. In addition, treatment such as dialectical behavior therapy can help a person manage their tolerance of distress.
Which therapies are best for self-harm?
Specific approaches used by professionals include cognitive behavioral, dialectical behavior, psychodynamic, and mentalisation-based therapies, among others. Cognitive behavioral and dialectical behavior therapies are common approaches for people who have painful thoughts and past traumas. These therapies help an individual cope with distress, regulate emotions, and manage impulsive urges.
Does the tendency to self-harm mean the person is suicidal?
Having this urge does not mean the individual suffers from suicidal ideation. People who want to self-injure look to distract or alleviate themselves from the pain they are experiencing. People with suicidal tendencies want to end life altogether. However, this does not mean a person with the intent to self-harm will not attempt suicide.
How often and how long are therapy sessions for self-harm?
As with any type of therapy, sessions depend on the individual. Clients may see improvement within 20 sessions, at an average of 50 minutes per session, while others may opt for 20 to 30 sessions over, maybe, a six-month period. People, especially those with co-occurring conditions like depression and anxiety, may need to continue therapy for up to 12 to 18 months.
