I welcome adult and adolescent gamers facing such challenges as depression, anxiety, trauma, and grief as well as those who believe their gaming has become problematic.
Do you (or someone close to you) love video games? Does it seem like the only place you belong is online or in game? Do games give you a place where you can be the person you wish you could be IRL? Video games are one of the most pervasive forms of media today. They hone important skills like perseverance, curiosity, and problem-solving. In addition, they provide social connection, clear rules and expectations, opportunities to try on new roles and identities, and immersive narratives that allow us to explore (or escape) ourselves and the world around us.

I have extensive experience helping adults navigating transitions related to moving, new professional opportunities, loss, grief, and new parenting.
I welcome people from all walks of life in my practice. During our therapy sessions I offer my clients the space and the time to explore, define and gain a deeper understanding of themselves, their relationships to others and to the world. Turning difficult feelings into words, helps making meaning of human experience. This is the best way to take control of strong emotions, instead of them controlling us. I like to support people in living their lives in a way that can feel authentic and functional.

Many adults feel grief, sadness, guilt, anger and worry. Major events such as diagnosis of chronic illness, divorce, trauma, grief, can contribute to loss of energy and diminished hope for positive change. Even without such dramatic occurrences, depression and anxiety often co-exist. Therapy is a form of self-care, and an opportunity to raise self-awareness that can lead to change. It can provide active listening and non-judgmental regard. Insight into core values can bring clarity, energy and movement toward goals. Mood can improve, decisions can be made with greater confidence, and a feeling of hope can be restored.

Grief Therapists
How long does therapy take for grief?
There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.
When should you seek therapy for grief?
Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.
Can grief be managed without therapy?
Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.
What happens if grief is left untreated?
Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
