I appreciate someone with an open heart and a willingness to explore their inner self. I value individuals who are ready to engage and connect in meaningful conversations. I know it can be hard to take the first step for help, and look for someone who is committed to their own growth and willing to collaborate in their goals. Trust, honesty, and a desire to change create a supportive connecting environment where healing and transformation can take place.

My ideal client would be someone who is geared towards helping themselves and needing guidance on how to do so. Someone who has a grasp on the importance of the client putting in the work to truly help heal themselves but needing assistance ensuring they are doing things in a healthy and emotionally intelligent fashion. Talk therapy is very important for clients who even just want to come and vent, which I believe helps the mind unclutter.

Some of my specialty areas are Anxiety, Depression, Trauma and PTSD, Self-esteem, OCD, Domestic Violence, and Child Emotional Neglect. Are you struggling with self-esteem, self-trust, shame, and guilt, which is why change does not occur? I provide psychoeducation to all clients to help them recognize why change is so difficult and understand how the mind works. An ideal client takes notes and follows through on exercises throughout the week. There are 160 hours in a week, and as a therapist, I only see you 1 hour a week, which means work outside of a therapy session is key to making positive changes in your life.

Relationships can bring out the best and the worst in us: at times, leaving us feeling like our best selves; at others, like the dirt on the floor. Depression, anxiety, and other mental health symptoms can manifest as we attempt to cope with these relational injuries: trauma, loss, rejection, abandonment, and exile from the ones we love, maybe even our very selves. Painful patterns built with loved ones can be difficult to change, yet within these conflicts our longings emerge to guide new patterns of growth.

I enjoy working with people to meet them right where they are and walk alongside them in navigating the difficult places life can bring us to. Most often these difficult places are not of our choice yet even if they are, there can be a beauty in using our pain as a stepping stone to change paths towards growth and healing.

I enjoy working with individuals from a variety of diverse backgrounds, cultures, and orientations. We’re all on a journey and at times need someone to walk with us as we navigate new or rough terrain as we seek connection and learn to craft a life we want. Every journey towards healing looks different-what helps one person doesn't necessarily help another. We are all a sum of everything that has happened to us and more. My hope is to provide therapeutic support that considers all aspects of a person when considering what might be helpful in moving forward, whatever that may look like.

I have worked with families experiencing child abuse and neglect, marriage difficulties, depression, anxiety and self-harming behaviors.
I left my career in the finance industry to pursue my passion for healing and health in 2013. I have a warm and caring personality and am experienced working with individuals, couples, families and children. I use a variety of treatment modalities, but my approach is very client-centered. I often utilize a cognitive behavioral approach to counseling, helping clients understand the relationship between their thoughts, feelings and behaviors and learning which they can control.

Welcome! I'm Chelsea and I specialize in clients with depression, anxiety, trauma, and relationship issues but work with clients with numerous mental health and life struggles including parenting issues, bipolar, self-harm, grief/loss, and much more. I know starting therapy can feel scary and overwhelming so I strive to provide a warm, welcoming therapeutic environment. A strong relationship is the most important thing to me during the therapeutic process. Once that is established then we can focus on the work that needs to be done.

I work with adolescents and adults who are experiencing difficulty managing symptoms of anxiety and depression. I implement coping tools to allow these clients to better understand the nature of their triggers and how they can effectively manage their often distressing feelings and behaviors. I encourage clients to be active participants in their own lives by setting goals for themselves which include how they would like to feel and how they wish to engage with the world around them.

Seeing others heal through different therapeutic approaches is one of my greatest accomplishments in life. My goal is to create an atmosphere where people can freely express themselves without judgement or ridicule from the therapist but to aide in being the best version of themselves. My target audience are adolescent teens and adults struggling with anxiety, depression, grief, trauma, and/or any social emotional impact one may be experiencing. Using a CBT approach, my goal is to assist the client in establishing and differentiating between negative and healthy thoughts as well as see the power of behavioral change.

Self-Harming Therapists

How does therapy for self-harm work?

A person may turn to self-injury so that they can distract themselves from their stress, depression, anxiety, or upsetting circumstances. Therapy can address the cause of an individual’s suffering. A therapist can help a person understand why they may want to self-harm and help the person learn new methods of coping. A person may have poor emotion regulation, and treatment such as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) is helpful for breaking this behaviour. In addition, treatment such as dialectical behavior therapy can help a person manage their tolerance of distress.

Which therapies are best for self-harm?

Specific approaches used by professionals include cognitive behavioral, dialectical behavior, psychodynamic, and mentalisation-based therapies, among others. Cognitive behavioral and dialectical behavior therapies are common approaches for people who have painful thoughts and past traumas. These therapies help an individual cope with distress, regulate emotions, and manage impulsive urges.

Does the tendency to self-harm mean the person is suicidal?

Having this urge does not mean the individual suffers from suicidal ideation. People who want to self-injure look to distract or alleviate themselves from the pain they are experiencing. People with suicidal tendencies want to end life altogether. However, this does not mean a person with the intent to self-harm will not attempt suicide.

How often and how long are therapy sessions for self-harm?

As with any type of therapy, sessions depend on the individual. Clients may see improvement within 20 sessions, at an average of 50 minutes per session, while others may opt for 20 to 30 sessions over, maybe, a six-month period. People, especially those with co-occurring conditions like depression and anxiety, may need to continue therapy for up to 12 to 18 months.
