This influences how I provide first responder, police, and military counseling related to stress management and trauma.
I have a passion for helping people find the comfort of individual uniqueness - your “sweet spot”. I seek to help you work past the stresses and demands of our culture to find joy and peace. Finding healthy coping techniques will enable you to successfully navigate the hard and hurtful experiences that life dumps on us. As Rachel Naomi Remen says, "Healing may not be so much about getting better, as about letting go of everything that isn't you - all of the expectations, all of the beliefs - and becoming who you are." Your journey is uniquely you, and I want to help you find peace and comfort in the life you’ve been given.

I work with clients who feel stuck and overwhelmed by negative experiences (traumas). Trauma often manifests as physical symptoms you don't understand or emotions that shut you down when you least expect it. Maybe you feel numb or can't seem to stop feeling too much. Difficulty with memory and attention are often side affects of a person trying to mange life under great amounts of stress. Feelings of overwhelmed, anxiety, depression, and irritability, anger and even physical pain are our mind's way of saying something is wrong.

I work broadly with trauma, depression, and anxiety.
In the moments, when you feel stuck, unsafe, or overwhelmed; I'm here to help. My goal is to work alongside you as you interact with your own inner strength, self-worth, and capacity for love as you grow toward the best version of yourself. Perhaps trauma, an eating disorder, or depression has made you feel disconnected, lonely, and empty. My work with individuals, families, and found families helps people to reconnect, or connect for the first time, with themselves, with others, and with the world around them as their true, authentic selves.

I specialize in working alongside of individuals experiencing anxiety, depression, PTSD or trauma, grief, and identity struggles; however, my work has not been limited to these experiences. Utilizing several treatment modalities including equine-assisted therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, internal family systems, and mindfulness-based strategies, I believe in using an eclectic approach that customizes therapy to the individual. I approach counseling with a straight-forward approach that contributes to safety and therapeutic rapport in the counseling setting, recognizing that attending counseling is not an easy thing to do!

Supporting women's unique needs are a major passion of mine. Clients seek me out to address burnout, work/life balance, parenting challenges, and perinatal mental health needs. Therapists, entrepreneurs, and business leaders experience high levels of stress and often provide a lot of support to others but lack their own support. I step into that gap to help change that. I've been a business owner since 2016 and know how lonely it can feel. I am also highly trained to support adoptees and their families. I have over 20 years of experience working with children and families. I am a TBRI Practitioner.

As a therapist, I am passionate about working with people trying to cope after experiencing trauma, grief, or major life transitions.
Do you feel constantly overwhelmed by the stress of everyday life? Does the pain you see at work, at school, or in your personal relationships threaten to steal your capacity for joy and peace? Have you experienced profound loss or trauma that makes it difficult to believe in any good in the world? Amanda Gorman wrote, "When day comes we step out of the shade, aflame and unafraid, the new dawn blooms as we free it. For there is always light, if only we're brave enough to see it. If only we're brave enough to be it." Can I help you in finding this light within yourself?

I am passionate about working with survivors of sexual trauma, religious and spiritual concerns, and foster care/adoption systems.
Does it feel like all you are doing is doggy paddling in the ocean, trying to keep your head above water? It feels like relationships are anchoring you down, and life events are giant waves pushing you under. Reaching out for help can feel scary. I hope to help you learn to surf the waves, implement coping skills, and feel in control of your life. Through therapy, you can learn to process and embrace your past and look forward to your future. I hope you can learn about yourself and start loving and accepting all parts of you. I am committed to providing affirming care and honoring those who come from marginalized identities.

I realize that trauma is not purely a veteran or first responder issue.
My education includes a PhD in Religious Philosophy, a Master of Divinity, and Master of Science in Psychology, and I am working on a PhD in Psychology. Although my schooling may sound impressive, I credit most of my ability in working the field is due to my upbringing and a legitimate concern for people. I also have a background in chemical dependency treatment.

I am also EMDR-trained and ART-certified and have found these to be very effective therapies when dealing with trauma, PTSD, depression, and anxiety.
Note: Others in my collaborative practice are taking new clients. It is my belief that everyone can benefit from counseling, and it takes a strong person to seek out assistance when needed. I believe we are not made to live in isolation, and we do best when we are part of a community. By recognizing the events that have formed us in life, we can learn from them and become a better version of ourselves. In order for this process to take place, I strive to create a comfortable and safe environment that supports increased insight and growth.

I would like to help clients to work identify what their orphaned parts are and how those developed through trauma while working on how to bring those parts back home.
When thinking about my "ideal" client, I don't have any specific person or problem that comes to mind. I believe that each person has their own unique life and experiences and that a therapist should be willing to work with them to discover their issues, needs, and goals as the therapeutic relationship is built. Every relationship in life is based on trust, so I would say that I would want my clients to trust me enough to let me in and begin working on their individual selves.

Clients seek my help to navigate the struggles and difficulties that often revolve around intimacy/sexuality, family conflict, and personal identity. Those who desire to repair conflicts, reduce problematic (sexual, spiritual, emotional) patterns, establish healthier relationships, or heal trauma interfering with the present will align well. I earned my PhD in Clinical Sexology. This allowed me to professionally expand my practice from relational to deeply personal as sexuality impacts so much. Clients find this work highly valuable.

Trauma and PTSD Therapists

When should I seek treatment for trauma?

Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.

How long does trauma therapy take?

Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.

What happens if trauma is left untreated?

Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.

Can PTSD come back after treatment?

It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
