Many of us struggle silently wishing for change but are unable to see a way to get there. If this sounds like you, I am here to tell you that change is possible and the other side is liberating. If you are struggling with depression, anxiety, or unresolved childhood issues, we can find ways to work through these issues together. I believe that at the end of the day there are three questions that if we can answer, we can get through anything in life. Those questions are: Who am I? Who do I want to be? How do I get there? I can help you begin to examine those questions and create new tools to help you understand those answers.

We all face times that tests our foundations. Our situations can be confusing, overwhelming, disappointing, frustrating, or painful. We find ourselves struggling. But there’s good news: we don’t have to navigate these situations alone. I believe that the experiences from our past help shape and define our present, sometimes embedded in our subconscious. You and I will work closely together to form a comfortable and collaborative therapeutic relationship in which exploration, learning, and healing can occur.

Reaching out for support can be one of the most challenging yet empowering things an individual can do. Good for you on taking the first step! Even if you are accustomed to dealing with life’s challenges on your own, sometimes the situations and experiences that arise can feel overwhelming and difficult to navigate alone. Maybe you are searching for new coping strategies, or just need to work through a difficult situation, or maybe you have been struggling for a while and finally decided it's time to get some support. If so, I would love to walk a few steps beside you on your journey.

Studies prove that unaddressed childhood trauma can negatively impact an individual’s ability to function in life as an adult. Children often develop distortions about their value and uniqueness. Processing this now may save you and your child a lot of heartache later. My compassionate approach to therapy is holistic, meaning that I take into consideration how different life events and people affect the whole person. I create a specific treatment plan for the client that fits their needs. Life challenges are a constant, but with the right strategies, a child can learn how to handle and navigate through them with confidence.

Anger Management Therapists

How long does therapy take for anger management?

Treatment duration depends on the person’s specific challenges and circumstances. There are treatments for anger problems that are shorter and more goal-oriented, like Cognitive behavior therapy (CBT), which can last weeks to months. Others, like Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) may last between six months and a year, while a more intensive treatment, like psychodynamic therapy, is open-ended, and clients may see their therapist for a year or longer.

How do you know if you need therapy for anger management?

Everyone gets mad from time to time. But when angry outbursts become frequent and cause damage to relationships, whether at home or in the office, it may be a good time to look into therapy. A therapist can assess where a client’s anger may be coming from, suggest strategies for averting angry outbursts, and help a client create a plan to become a calmer version of themselves.

Is there medication for anger management?

Medications do exist that help people mitigate the feeling of anger, but these are reserved for people with anger-related psychiatric disorders, such as intermittent explosive disorder, oppositional defiant disorder, or in some cases borderline personality disorder. In these cases, antidepressant medications may be prescribed to help with the client’s symptoms. In most cases of anger management, however, talk therapy is the recommended treatment, along with lifestyle changes where relevant.

What’s the best way to encourage someone to seek help for anger issues?

It’s helpful to express your concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual’s behavior affected either themselves or others should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.
