Life today might not look the way you want it to. I’m here to tell you that that’s okay, it doesn’t have to stay this way. Whether anxiety or trauma is affecting your day-to-day life or you’re just ready to invest in your wellness in a new way, this is a place for you. I deeply believe that each of us has an innate ability to heal ourselves. By learning to understand yourself better — to no longer avoid or resist the way you are but instead to embrace it — you can experience the freedom and wisdom that results in real change.

I enjoy working with adolescent to adults experiencing transitions of life such as schooling/careers, parenthood, relationships, and lifestyle changes. These transitions often create feelings of anxiety, depression, difficulty regulating emotions and uncertainty. Life transitions can also influence how people may process their past experiences and trauma.

I’ve been in clinical practice for over seven years, and have worked as a social worker since 2010. I work with all ages because I believe we all need a little support from time to time, no matter our phase of life. I strive to create a collaborative, safe space to explore openly and engage genuinely. Individuals may seek therapy with me for many reasons, and no reason is “more valid” than any other. Some of these might be: self-esteem, anxiety, depression, grief, trauma, major life changes, parenting, fertility challenges and/or pregnancy loss, postpartum adjustments, relationship challenges, personal development and growth.

Are you looking to improve communication skills, gain better insight into your mental health, or develop coping skills? Do you feel like the same situations keep repeating in life no matter how hard you try to prevent them? Are emotions out of control? Do you feel like things need to change, but you don’t know how or where to start? Is unaddressed trauma negatively impacting your day-to-day life or relationships? These situations can seem impossible to manage when impacting every aspect of your life or relationships; but therapy can help you explore, define, and gain a deeper understanding of your mental health needs.

The human experience is interesting to say the least - the suffering, joy, compassion, anger that we experience. Although all of us have our individual journeys and unique experiences, we're able to find connection with one another. As a therapist being able to connect with my clients and helping them navigate through the struggles in their journey, as well as celebrate their accomplishments, is something I consider to be special. I believe that all of us have unique strengths and have potential to find those strengths.

Life is unpredictable and uncomfortable at times and adding mental health struggles, addiction, and/or trauma makes it much more difficult to navigate. You don’t have to walk your path alone! A therapist can help you to manage the unwanted thoughts and behaviors you may be experiencing. They can also be a trusted person to assist in guiding you toward confidence and joy.

Finding help (and the right kind of help) for your child or adolescent or even knowing where to start with that can be overwhelming. The fact that you’re even reading this though says one thing: you have hope, and that’s the first step! Therapy can help your child learn how to navigate difficult emotions, gain understanding of their personal goals, and find confidence in who they are all in a safe and warm environment.

All of us have had experiences that challenge us and push us to our limits. When things are hard, we may start to wonder, “What’s wrong with me?” So often, though, what you’re going through is a natural human response to the stressors in your environment. You don’t need to be fixed; you’re not broken. In therapy we can work together to peel back the layers, take a closer look at your challenges, past or present, become rooted in who you are and the strengths you have so you can rise above and live a life you love.

Female Therapists

Does it matter what gender my therapist is?

In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.

Should I see a female therapist?

Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.

Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?

Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?

It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
