I specialize in helping people who are struggling with alcohol use and want to learn how to either take control of it or stop drinking completely.
Hi, I'm Lindsey! Is there someone in your life whose behavior has you questioning your own reality & sanity? Do you live, or have lived, with someone who has addictive behaviors? Or someone whom you suspect may have a personality disorder? Do you find yourself walking on eggshells around them? Are you having trouble recalling a time when life seemed "normal"? You're not alone! What you are experiencing & feeling is a lot more common than you may realize. My passion is helping people address these concerns through a supportive relationship so they can feel fulfilled and content in their lives.

I enjoy working with teens and adults who are curious about addressing substance use, alcohol, depression, anxiety, or relationship struggles. Recovery can feel overwhelming, as individuals often face conflicting desires: the wish to change and find freedom from substances that offer temporary relief, alongside the instinct to maintain a sense of stability. This fear of what life might look like without familiar coping mechanisms can create significant tension. Together, we can navigate these complexities and work towards healthier, more fulfilling ways of coping.

I have been in the fields of mental health and substance abuse for over 20 years. I enjoy working with all populations. In trying to navigate through substance abuse and mental health issues, there are many factors that envelope a person's ability to cope with life. I understand that asking for help can be difficult and identifying a need for change can induce some fears. I can help you identify any changes that are needed and offer encouragement and support through your journey of self preservation.

Significant disconnection and shame are intense and unfortunately common experiences people are struggling with. Sometimes, our emotions or body sensations feel intense or overwhelming. This pain may lead us to act in ways that are against our values or desires. Perhaps we act out sexually, eat excessively, or are avoidant of relationships. Regardless, these behaviors often further our loss of control, distress, hurt, and low self-esteem.

Alcohol Use Therapists

Are there specific medications for alcohol use?

There are oral medications approved to treat alcohol use disorder—such as disulfiram, acamprosate, and naltrexone, which also comes in an injectable form. These medications do help people reduce their drinking as well as avoid the problem of relapse. Naltrexone helps reduce cravings, disulfiram can make a person feel sick when they drink, and acamprosate may help ease symptoms like poor sleep and anxious feelings.

How do alcohol recovery or rehabilitation programs work?

In inpatient programs, individuals live in a facility with other patients in recovery; in outpatient programs, individuals live at home. These facilities are staffed with healthcare professionals including physicians, nurses, psychologists, counselors, and psychotherapists. Staff can also include people who have recovered themselves, serving as mentors and guides. These programs may use abstinence, harm reduction, detoxification, psychotherapy, and other tools for recovery.

How do 12-step programs combined with psychotherapy work?

Members of 12-step programs help each other reach abstinence and work to maintain it. These programs promote complete change in the individual’s emotional, mental, physical, and even spiritual perspectives. Some programs require that new members attend 90 meetings in 90 days. Many people do attend these programs in conjunction with their work in psychotherapy; the combination of therapy along with 12-step can be extremely effective.

How does harm reduction combined with psychotherapy work?

According to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, harm reduction prevents death, injury, disease, overdose, and substance misuse. People who choose harm reduction for alcohol use reduce the amount of alcohol they intake. It is not abstinence-based like a 12-step program, but combining harm reduction with psychotherapy proves to be effective for many people.
