Waitlist for new clients
I serve clients who struggle with long term emotional distress or who have crisis issues in their lives. Clients motivated to understand the conscious and unconscious forces and meanings that shape their experience and their relationships are specially suited to the work I do. I work from the perspective of intersubjective psychoanalytic theory and object relations theory. I am an Accredited Practitioner in Mentalization Based Psychotherapy with Personality Disorders through the British Psychoanalytic Council.

Therapy is tough work that requires a strong partnership. For that, we both need to do our best to relate straightforwardly with one another. My primary concern in therapy is to develop an honest relationship driven by a shared desire to understand your life, and how you came to be this version of yourself. After that, I'll help you decide whether you should seek to make changes and how to go about that.

Many of life’s toughest challenges become easier to address when we understand them.
Are you looking to make long-lasting changes in your life? Maybe you're feeling things that you don't understand. Maybe you are noticing painful patterns in your life that seem to be repeating themselves. Maybe feelings of depression and anxiety have crept up on you, and you don't know how to make them stop. Maybe you're in a relationship that isn't right for you. Maybe you don't even know what "right for you" is. Maybe you're a caregiver who is trying to find some peace and calm in the middle of your stress. Or maybe you're just wondering if life is really supposed to be this hard. If that sounds like you, I think I can help.

I work with a wide range of issues including depression, anxiety, relationship conflict, men's issues, identity, sex, addiction, trauma, and attachment.
I work with people who are experiencing emotional distress and looking for lasting change in their lives. Depression, anxiety, feelings of sadness and hopelessness, distressing thoughts, and self criticism can make life unbearable and dampen one's spirit. My style of therapy focuses on building an understanding of one's distress, its relationship to the past, and how its shaped you into the person you are now. Together we'll think about the problems you face and carve a path toward a more fulfillinh life. We are changed by every relationship in our lives. And my hope is our relationship will bring about the healing you seek.

I specialize in the treatment of trauma and anxiety related disorders, especially managing the impact and challenges of medical trauma.
do you feel life is often overwhelming? Does it feel like the people around you are not listening or can't understand? Does anxiety or fear keep you from trying something? Is there a past trauma that still is impacting your day to day life? If this is you, you're among GREAT company, even though the experience is so isolating.

Much of my practice fouses on working with a variety of stress related disorders and diseases as well as pain management.
(Biofeedback and Neurobiofeedback see profile for details.) I have been a clinican since 1973. It is through this depth of experience I have come to realize that we are all just innocent beings who, through conditioning, forgot who we truly are - perfect, loving, and whole. Therapy then becomes a process of remembrance and realignment with our true Self.

I have a passion to journey with couples who seek to restore love and trust in their life and in their relationship(s). When we experience violations to our sense of identity and safety we experience real pain and confusion. It is possible for all of us to find peace and be grounded in the truth of who we are, and discover new ways to act within our daily life and decision making. I especially have an interest in journeying with couples struggling with communication (i.e. decision making), passion and attachment, intimacy, life transitions, and conflict (i.e. anger, shame, control, infidelity, addiction, trauma).

There is no such thing as an ideal client. That is too boring. The way I do therapy is relaxed. I am not your average therapist, and I am not going to be like, "How does that make you feel?" but I am going to say, "What up! How are we doing today?" I never stop learning, and when you have me as a therapist, you will see that you will fall back in love with learning. Overall, I am just honored you allowed me to help you! Also, the best way to reach me is to Email over calling due to normally being in session, and I want to respond to you as quickly as possible!

Congratulations for seeking therapy! I am taking referrals and can do so quickly. Many people feel reluctant to seek therapy because of the assumption that you should be able to deal with all problems yourself. Most people experience improvement in mood and anxiety problems as they work with a therapist. I believe I am easy to talk to and listen carefully. I also have over 40 years of experience and have developed skills in a variety of problem areas. If you see me and we establish a plan, you will be in the driver's seat as far as how much you need and how long you need it. AND YES - I offer weekend and evening appointments.

Special interest areas are giving parents tools to manage difficult behaviors, strengthening the child-parent bond, building relationship skills for individuals and couples, addiction counseling that includes care coordination with medication-assisted treatments for opioid and other use disorders, and therapies that work for managing depression and anxiety.
Are you looking for help with child/parenting concerns, relationship issues, and/or unhealthy patterns, including addictions? You don’t have to face these things alone! My experience and skills are helping children, families, adults and couples to work toward building healthy connections and relationships. My background includes training and practice in child-centered play therapy, early childhood mental health development at Riley Hospital, as well as marriage and family therapy. In addition to my private practice, I have worked extensively with incarcerated youth and wo men.

As a therapist I walk with you as your guide and ally in discovering unhelpful beliefs and finding new paths and possibilities. Change happens from new experiences; my role is to walk with you through insight and discovery. A perspective of mindfulness also influences my work. I am client centered and embrace the idea that we are each the expert of our own experiences of life. I will meet you where you are, identifying and building upon your strengths along with identifying barriers to growth.

As a man, why might I want to see a male therapist?

There are many reasons a man might wish to work with a male therapist, including a degree of shared identity, which may help client and therapist connect to each other and allow for a more free-flowing discussion of issues that can be deeply personal. Some men may feel more comfortable talking to a male therapist about relationship concerns, the pressures they feel around the roles society and family place on men, career or job challenges, self-esteem, or anger problems. For some men who have not had a male role models in their lives, a good male therapist may be especially helpful.

How can I find out about a therapist’s experience treating men?

Individuals looking for treatment should feel comfortable directly asking a therapist about their history treating men overall and the issues that arise in therapy with men. A good therapist will be happy to discuss such matters as well as their educational background, approach to treatment, and how they think they can aid a prospective client. Prospective clients should also ask what the expectation is for treatment, and what the fee structure is, and whether and which insurance plans are accepted.

Can clients benefit from having a therapist of the same gender?

Therapy is not gender-specific, but some men as well as women feel more comfortable opening up about their experiences and history with a male therapist. An individual may feel that they have to explain less background information and be on the same page more quickly, particularly when discussing gender-specific challenges, in the case of male clients. Some women have prior negative experiences with women that predispose them to prefer working with a male in therapy. That said, a good clinician can transcend most if not all gender concerns. Ultimately, the most important factor in therapy is the connection and trust the client is able to build with the practitioner.

Would a male therapist have specific training in treating men?

Generally, no. There are no certifications for treating men specifically, but there are continuing education classes that therapists may take that focus on treating men as a group. There are many therapists who focus on men and male issues in their treatment and therefore have experience and expertise in this domain.
