I provide holistic treatment for anxiety, mood disorders, ADHD, life transitions, family of origin concerns, and more.
Life often hands us challenges we don't feel capable of managing. Our thoughts, feelings, and expectations can be so overwhelming that they become obstacles to making decisions and living our lives to the fullest. Therapy is a safe environment to understand our thoughts and feelings, face pain and fear, and align our lives to our values. The freedom that comes from understanding and facing our challenges is well worth the effort. In treatment, I help cultivate an environment of trust and compassion to face and overcome life's challenges through an integration of CBT, ACT, ERP, relational, and dynamic therapies.

I have extensive experience in the diagnosis and treatment of mood disorders, depression, anxiety, personality disorders, relationship conflict, trauma, and concerns related to adjustment and life span development.
Because each person has unique experiences, thoughts, feelings, and strengths, therapy can be an individualized process that is designed from the first session to assist clients towards their desired goals. For some, therapy involves receiving immediate support. For others, it involves examination of the past. Furthermore, some clients seek help to engage in new skills for the present and future. Therapy often involves safe exploration of new strategies to lead towards desired growth. My approach to therapy integrates theory and techniques from psychodynamic, cognitive-behavioral (CBT), and interpersonal psychotherapies.

I have experience working with individuals with a history of past trauma, sexual abuse issues, anxiety, depression, and relationship struggles, as well as helping individuals with addiction recovery.
I am a Licensed Mental Health Therapist who is also a member of the LGBTQIA community and a strong advocate for human rights. I believe that when individuals feel unbalanced, they experience more struggles in their lives. The mental, emotional, physical, and spiritual aspects must all be given attention so that balance in all facets of an individual's life can be more easily obtained. The process of therapy is meant to help guide and encourage the client to address current and past issues that may be causing an individual to struggle to gain personal balance and happiness.

Anxiety Therapists

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?

Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?

The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?

Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?

Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
