My training includes EMDR (trauma care), Family Systems, Grief/Loss, PSI (Pre/Postpartum Depression/Anxiety/OCD for moms/dads/families), Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT), and Dialectical Behavior Training (DBT).
Hi, I'm Michele. I'm glad you're here. I know how a situation, involving yourself or a loved one, can consume your life. I became a therapist because I've experienced similar circumstances. Those moments have led me to be an empathetic and effective counselor. We will take things at your pace. This is your time, and we will work together to find healing and growth.

I invite you to email me to schedule a free 20 minute consultation phone call to see if we would be a good fit to work together! I will be offering a virtual process group focused on grief later in the year.
I treasure a core belief that human beings are inherently compassionate, wise, and whole. Then life happens and we begin to lose access to our inner resourcefulness. Connection, authenticity, and empathy form the foundation of my work. I feel that change and healing occur both experientially and relationally. By utilizing compassion, curiosity, honesty, and humor, I connect and collaborate with clients to build a supportive and non-judgmental container for self-exploration and growth.

Areas of focus include life transitions, grief, death, loss, anxiety, depression, self-identity, LGBTQIA+, self-esteem and self criticism, relationships, career and trauma.
“Together we will cry and face fear and grief. I will want to take away your pain, but instead I will sit with you and teach you how to feel it.”- Brené Brown We are often met with experiences in life that shape us and create patterns of responding to our environments in both healthy and unhealthy ways. We may feel alone in moments of darkness, confusion or in the presence of the unknown; you are not alone! We will work to trust the process of sitting with the uncomfortable, embracing uniqueness and vulnerabilities and identifying thoughts and feelings that prevent us from seeing our best selves.

I've had the privilege of working with individuals and families on various issues, including sexual abuse and assault, other forms of trauma, LGBTQ issues, depression, anxiety, substance use and grief/loss.
There's a beautiful passage by Jacquelyn Small that sums up the way I view and practice therapy: "When therapeutic relating occurs, both parties have dissolved the boundary between the one needing help and the other offering it; they are simply two beings bouncing off each other in truth; We all just need clear people to bounce off of so we can see our own light." I strongly believe that we're the experts of our own lives and sometimes we just need a safe, non-judgmental person to see us, believe our experiences and remind us that we're deserving and healing is possible.

I specialize in anxiety, ADHD, OCD, high achievers, burnout, perfectionism, grief, parenting, and coping with chronic illnesses.
Feeling stuck and having trouble engaging in what really matters to you? Your brain has done an excellent job keeping you safe, but some strategies developed as a reaction to stressors may no longer meet your needs. Issues like family of origin discord, medical illnesses, neurodivergence, and stressful work environments can all add up to impact our relationship with ourselves and others. I especially love working with high achievers who have issues with perfectionism, burnout, dissociation, and procrastination.

Silent and negative non-verbal thoughts to ourselves about life's circumstances can and will hurt us. They are the misbeliefs or lies we silently tell ourselves, over and over again about why we feel the way we feel when we experience suffering. Our silent, negative non-verbal thoughts become our negative self-talk and keep us stuck in life's circumstances. We can choose to make a difference. We can choose to recognize the misbeliefs or lies we tell ourselves so that we can start the healing process of moving forward.

We all have innate wisdom about what is best for us but may struggle to believe this about ourselves. I work with clients with past and ongoing trauma that has impacted their sense of self, created feelings of overwhelm, and even feelings of detachment. I strive to create a safe environment in which you can be curious about the relationship between your inner and outer worlds, and how they relate. Through curiosity, I hope to show you that there are no “bad parts" of you, just parts that may no longer serve you. I help clients to connect mind and body to address the full picture of thoughts, feelings and emotions.

My clients often are aware that something in their current lives is no longer serving them, want to understand how that came to be, and align themselves with the vision they have for their future. This often starts by noticing repeating patterns of behavior in themselves, or those they attract, and becoming curious about the reason why. They may also find that they experience certain physical and emotional responses (anger, anxiety, people pleasing etc.) and know that their body is trying to tell them something needs to shift.

Grief Therapists

How long does therapy take for grief?

There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.

When should you seek therapy for grief?

Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.

Can grief be managed without therapy?

Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.

What happens if grief is left untreated?

Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
