My focus is helping adults who are experiencing depression, stress, grief, and life changes.
Would you believe I started out in film school before becoming a therapist? Giving up a path in entertainment may seem backward but my family had been suddenly impacted by terminal and chronic illness. My own grief journey inspired me to help people so I finished my education in Social Work and I've been a therapist since.

Hello, my name is Susana Wilson! I'm excited to meet you and start our therapy work together. I'm a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. After completing education and training in grad school in 2010 at IUPUI I provided therapy in a clinical setting and then moved to teletherapy. I will meet you where you are at. I want to empower you and help guide you through any challenges that arise.

I have extensive experience in working with children, adolescents, adults, and families that have experienced severe trauma (physical abuse, sexual abuse, and neglect), grief and loss, individuals with mental health diagnoses, conflict resolution, stress (personal and work), and behavioral issues.
Do you struggle with symptoms related to trauma from your childhood or as an adult? Do you find yourself constantly on edge or feeling like you have an overwhelming amount of emotions? I believe every person has the power to change their current situation for the better, no matter what obstacles they may be facing. My goal is to collaborate with each person, as each individual is the expert in their own life, to help them develop healthy coping strategies, learn new skills, gain insight, and find purpose and meaning in their life. Therapy is a place to create hope that things can get better, to empower change, and encourage healing.

As a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, I have 18 years experience working in a medical setting providing therapeutic support and resources to patients and families receiving hospital, home healthcare, and hospice services. When my own health issues created the need for me to step away from my professional role, I became more devoted to caring for my inner self. Through my own journey, I have become more holistically minded and embrace a mind-body-spirit approach in everything life brings to me. It is my goal to use my gifts and talents to help others heal in a more fully integrated way. In addition to my Clinical licensure.

The foundations to a person's mind are based on the principals both instilled into and gathered from experiences as a child. As children grow older, they soon start interpreting this information to decide for themselves which of their actions are right and wrong. What draws me to study Psychology is this mental processing, and how it affects a person's current and future disposition. As a reliable and hard-working individual, I believe I can make a worthy contribution in helping to assist you with your counseling needs.

Image a life that allows you to move forward, experiencing all life has to offer to it's fullest. Change is possible and through the guidance and support of therapy, one can maximize all that life has to offer. Change lies within each of us, and with personal responsibility and direction one can achieve life goals. The potential of any individual is determined not by past struggles but in one's ability to overcome personal struggle and capitalize on one's inherent resilience. With guidance and direction, one can move out of the shadows of the past, into a vibrant, hopeful future.

We're not always prepared for the challenges that come our way. Sometimes we encounter a problem we can't figure out on our own. It helps to have someone else to lean on to get us through a difficult period. My primary job as a counselor is to give encouragement, impart a sense of hope, and help restore balance in the lives of my clients. For some clients it's a rare experience to be truly heard, understood, and empathized with. I'll provide a warm, non-judgmental environment that allows you to tell your story.

While traditional talk therapy can be helpful for some, it is not for all. Art and other expressive therapies can be utilized as a tool to help people of all ages express, process and communicate their social and emotional needs when words aren’t enough. I enjoy working with children ages 3+ and have specialized in helping others regulate emotions, decrease and cope with stress, anxiety and depression; increase self-esteem, social skills and mood; and process traumatic events.

Life can be difficult. At times, we are confronted with painful experiences we would rather avoid. And because we don't deal with the discomfort those situations bring, we keep ourselves stuck - still experiencing and enacting the pain we are trying to avoid. I see psychotherapy as a liberating journey through which we are able to transcend the emotional discomfort painful occurrences bring with them, while learning to relate to our life stories in such a way that they no longer keep us hostage. Through this process, psychological and spiritual growth occurs. Let me walk with you.

Grief Therapists
How long does therapy take for grief?
There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.
When should you seek therapy for grief?
Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.
Can grief be managed without therapy?
Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.
What happens if grief is left untreated?
Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
