Some of the specific approaches that I use are the Gottman Method, Emotionally Focused Therapy ( EFT), SYMBIS premarital assessments, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Internal Family Systems, Collaborative Problem Solving (for parents and kids) and Brainspotting.
I work with individuals and couples, teens and children with a wide range of emotional and behavioral issues.I know that clients want to see progress even though it may be incremental. Therefore, I provide for a collaborative structure, plan and goals that allow clients to see progress every week. I provide resources, homework, and education to my clients to help them in the process of self-discovery and addressing relationship issues. I help clients to find solutions to solvable problems and develop coping skills to address issues that are harder to solve.

I use Emotionally Focused Therapy developed by Sue Johnson and Imago Relationships Therapy developed by Harvil Hendricks to facilitate a more connected couple relationship.
As you explore your thoughts with a trained listener you learn about yourself and have the space to sort out life's complications and create new understanding. A real understanding of yourself can give you the power to make more satisfying choices, lead to less anxiety and depression, improve relationships and as a result have a more enjoyable life. Imagine a life with less shame and guilt which are at the root of most mental health challenges.

Autism is not a medical condition needing "treatment." Rather, it is an opportunity to work intensively on personal growth starting with the child's diagnosis, and then extending to the family, the professionals, schools, communities and finally the governments.

You want closeness in a relationship, but also fear it. It's hard for you to open up in relationships. When you do share, you find yourself confused by feeling both closer to your partner but also scared and wanting to run away. You then find yourself avoiding texting your partner back, canceling plans with them and withdrawing. You are exhausted from this back and forth. Even worse, you are ashamed to have these struggles. Thoughts like, "Can I find love?" and "Will I ever be happy and secure?" plague you. If you can relate to any of this, you are not alone. I have helped many clients get relief from similar struggles.

Hi, welcome to my page. Here is what you can expect in counseling with me. We’re going explore the stressors in life that have brought you here. We’re going to develop some tangible, specific goals to work toward. We’ll start each session with a check-in to see how you’re doing. We’ll review homework, which we will come up with together. We’ll spend most of each session exploring an issue together, talking it out. I’ll strive to connect with you, to empathize, and understand the issue with you, and guide you in working through how you think and feel about what is going on. As an adult trying to navigate this world, you often find yourself wondering why everyone else seems to have it all figured out while you are struggling. Maybe you can't connect with your partner or you feel labeled by your family and are struggling to find who YOU really are. You hear advice from all different directions and have tried so many different things and nothing seems to be working. You feel defeated- and now it has become a cycle that is just getting worse. Maybe you can't sleep well or you're feeling disconnected. Imagine waking up tomorrow and feeling like you had a better sense of direction. What would that feel like?

Change your thoughts and you change your world. This statement could not be a more perfect example of how I view this thing called life. I believe that my role is to help guide you in becoming more aware of any barriers that may be in the way of allowing for change and growth. I come from a holistic frame of mind and believe that one can regain balance of mind, body, and soul with just being open to the idea and process of change. In addition to traditional therapy, I also offer Equine Facilitated Learning sessions and Equine Assisted Psychotherapy sessions through Strides to Success as a way to support a more holistic healing.

Emotionally Focused Therapists

Who is emotionally focused therapy for?

Emotionally focused therapy (EFT) is for couples who are emotionally distressed, stuck in an unsatisfying relationship pattern or feeling deeply alienated. They may even believe the relationship is beyond repair. Very often, the partners display intense anger, fear, grief, loss of trust, or a sense of betrayal in the relationship. In addition, EFT is helpful to couples and individuals who have difficulty expressing emotions and those who have trouble regulating emotions.

Why do people need emotionally focused therapy?

People need emotionally focused therapy because the need for others is built into the brain, but the pressures of daily life can erode feelings of love, and couples often do not have the skills to find their way back to the comfort of each other. Instead, they may be stuck in repetitive patterns of anger, fear, grief, loss of trust, or a sense of betrayal. Emotionally focused therapy regards such strong negative feelings as expressions of protest over the loss of connection and turns them into pathways of reconnection.

What happens in emotionally focused therapy?

Over the course of eight to 20 weekly sessions, couples de-escalate their negative emotional reactivity to one another so that they can listen to each other and be responsive to each other’s needs. Then the deep emotional and physical bond is restored, giving partners a sense of comfort and security, which they can use to solve whatever problems come their way. The therapist plays an active role, helping partners understand how anger and withdrawal are actually misguided cries for connection.

What problems does emotionally focused therapy treat?

EFT is designed to help couples stuck in dysfunctional relationship patterns regain closeness and rebuild their relationship. Typically, such couples experience considerable distress, with partners feeling alienated and distrustful of one another, not certain their relationship can survive. EFT is also helpful to individuals experiencing attachment-related fears of loss; it helps them learn to use their fears as a way of eliciting the closeness they desire.
