As an art therapist, I use a combination of art therapy with person-centered CBT and DBT as well as traditional talk therapy.
I am an LMHC and ATR with experience working with trauma, PTSD, anxiety, depression, substance use, and neurodivergence. Life can get rough and I'm here to help you through it. I earned my MA in Mental Health Counseling from the University of Indianapolis with a concentration in art therapy. I came into this field after my own struggles as a military spouse. I've witnessed first-hand what trauma and PTSD can do to individuals and families. My passion is helping those struggling to learn to better understand and manage their symptoms and to find healing.

I may utilize cognitive behavioral, EMDR, CPT, solution-focused, and supportive.
As a therapist I walk with you as your guide and ally in discovering unhelpful beliefs and finding new paths and possibilities. Change happens from new experiences; my role is to walk with you through insight and discovery. A perspective of mindfulness also influences my work. I am client centered and embrace the idea that we are each the expert of our own experiences of life. I will meet you where you are, identifying and building upon your strengths along with identifying barriers to growth.

I am certified in TF- CBT and EMDR.
I enjoy working with teens and adults that are struggling with a wide variety of issues. Trauma can impact us in many ways. Life can also just throw us curveballs. I enjoy walking through these hard things with people and watching the progress they make in themselves to live happier and more peaceful lives. I enjoy seeing individuals be able to use coping skills and express themselves in healthy ways.

Everyone deserves a chance to live their best life.  Many people come to counseling when they are feeling lost, stuck in negative patterns, and frustrated about their behaviors. They feel unheard and sometimes struggle to explain exactly what they are going through. As your counselor, my goal is to create a safe and supportive environment where you have a voice and can feel inspired to make positive changes that will improve your quality of life. I offer a safe non-judgmental environment that is predicated on empathy, respect, acceptance, and growth.

My approach to counseling services is three fold; education, skill building, and challenging negative thought patterns and replacing them with reality based affirmations and empowering statements ( cognitive-behavioral therapy).
I view counseling as a partnership between myself, the client, and their family/support system. I have experience working with individuals, groups, and family/marital therapy. In addition to working with depression, anxiety, stress management, and relationship skills, I have experience with personality disorders, and trauma healing; particularly women who have abuse in their history and are currently experiencing distress in relationships, re-victimization, and/or substance use. I believe in meeting the client where they are at and moving forward in their time and stage of change.

For deeply internalized messages, I utilize CBT techniques and mindfulness exercises, to help reframe the messages that individuals have often accepted as truth over a lifetime.
Have you ever felt as if the identity you have been living out of does not really fit? Trauma, neurodivergence, and anxiety are just a few of the reasons we might find ourselves adapting to others expectations. We exist in our state of adapting for years and then one day our ways of coping and existing just do not work any longer. We want to connect with our true self and find a sense of belonging, but where to start? We have been defined by others for so long we are not even sure who we are any longer.

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT) Therapists

How does cognitive behavioral therapy work?

Cognitive behavioral therapy works by exploring how your thoughts affect your emotions and experiences. CBT helps you identify distortions in your thinking. For example, you may tend to jump to the worst case scenario catastrophizing or think in extremes (all-or-nothing thinking). A therapist can teach you how to push back against those thoughts to ultimately change your feelings and behavior for the better. They can also provide coping skills to better deal with stressors and challenges.

When do I know to seek treatment with cognitive behavioral therapy?

It’s reasonable to consider cognitive behavioral therapy if you struggle to manage difficult emotions or behaviors to such an extent that you are not getting the most out of life on a day-to-day basis. If you want a shorter term, concrete, skills-based approach, CBT is a great option. (By contrast, other types of therapy may devote more time to exploring your past and its effects.) The decision to seek CBT also depends on the condition you’re treating; CBT is an effective treatment for anxiety, depression, trauma, and many other disorders.

How can I find a cognitive behavioral therapist for someone else?

To find a cognitive behavioral therapist for someone else, you may want to begin by discussing the person’s problem, researching cognitive behavioral therapy, and assessing whether the approach is the right fit. You could then reach out to a few cognitive behavioral therapists in this directory, explain the scenario, have a consultation with those available, and determine who could be a good match.

Why is CBT such a popular form of therapy?

CBT has become a popular form of therapy because it is effective and accessible. Robust research has demonstrated that CBT is an effective treatment for many mental health conditions. And CBT can be learned in relatively few sessions, which means that many people can engage in the process, afford it, and see results quickly. It involves learning concrete skills such as disputing unhelpful thoughts; these skills can also be taught and spread widely.
