I believe that forging a path toward healing is best accomplished through compassionate understanding and acceptance of the past. My job is not to judge. It is to listen, support and guide you in understanding the areas in your life that may need attention. Together, we will identify goals and create a thoughtful, wise life plan in which healthy, effective change is possible.

As a professional working to help change the lives of individuals, I take pride in treating clients with dignity and respect regardless of current circumstances or situations. Working with individuals experiencing emotional, behavioral, social, family and occupational difficulties has proven to be quite rewarding. My therapeutic style promotes a safe environment where individuals can gain a sense of trust, care and compassion, assisting in the promotion of self discovery and alleviation of symptoms.

An ideal client is one seeking inner and outer change to reach a more meaningful life. Exploring the inner world through cognitive approaches, mindfulness and dream work can help with the exploration of blocks stopping the process of change. Those seeking help in improving their marriage and family conflicts would benefit from being in a context where they can be heard as well as being exposed to the perspective of others. Clients having difficulties facing a new culture can benefit working with a bicultural therapist who lived in other countries and experienced those challenges.

Whether you are struggling with depression, anxiety, career, family, or health issues, giving yourself space to sort through your feelings in a safe place can help build resilience and coping. Together we can identify the things that hold you back and prevent growth. I view therapy as an opportunity to reset the internal roadblocks and mindsets. My focus is on providing a non-judgemental and accepting environment in which to help for clients in both Illinois and Michigan.

I can be described as a compassionate and reassuring clinician, who uses empathy and humor in my work with clients. I am authentic, creative, and my stance as a feminist, a queer person, and an artist all support my empowering and integrative approach. My mission as a clinician is to offer accessible trauma-informed therapy to marginalized communities, especially LGBTQIA+ and chronically ill populations. I am currently seeing individuals and relationships via telehealth.

I believe it’s not what happens, but what we do with what happens, our perceptions, and actions around what happens to us. It is my privilege to guide and listen to clients on their journey. I use active listening, and come from a place of “Unconditional positive regard.” I have had the privilege of working with children and their families through life’s transitions, and adjusting to a new normal. My primary work has been divorce, anxiety, depression, grief and loss, addiction, codependency, single parenting, retirement, and empty nesting.

I am Licensed Clinical social worker and have provided services for clients from 13 - 60 . I received my Masters in Social Work in 2000 and immediately began to work toward getting my license as an LCSW. In 2005, I received my license . I worked with adolescent teens for over 20 years and have also worked with parents, couples, and provided individual therapy to all age ranges and gender

As a black queer individual, I recognize how difficult the experience can be to find a culturally competent therapist that can understand the nuances of intersectionality and develop strategies to address such issues in a personalized manner. I want to meet my client where they are and assist them in this journey forward.

Jeffrey Garrison, Jr. is a Psychologist in Illinois. Jeffrey conducts psychological, cognitive, and neuropsychological assessments to help with diagnostic clarification, gender affirming surgery second opinion evaluations, TBI, and cognitive decline. In his personal time, Jeffrey likes to run and go to the gym. He tries to be outside as much as he can. He loves to cook but is not the best baker. He has two adorable dogs that love going to the dog park and walking around the lake.
