I am especially interested in working with adolescents and young adults who are experiencing difficulties related to issues such as life transitions, substance use, anxiety and/or depression, ADHD, academic concerns and relationship issues.
I strongly believe each of us has the ability to heal and grow, thereby creating a life in which we experience an inner sense of wellbeing, while being fulfilled and engaged in all that we do. As a therapist, I provide individuals with the nonjudgemental and respectful space one needs to discover and better understand the totality of who they are. Within the therapeutic relationship, I support and empower clients to discover their potential and to find ways to create healthy and positive life changes. My approach is relational and insight-oriented, while also focusing on practical tools to meet life's challenges.

I have additional training with those impacted by domestic violence and substance abuse.
If you are kept awake at night feeling lonely, frustrated, or in pain, wishing your life was different or your relationships more fulfilling, then therapy is for you. People begin therapy when they are hurting or feel stuck. They may feel overwhelmed by past or present stressors or traumas and may not know what to do to feel better. Others begin therapy to deepen their understanding of themselves and to reflect on how and why they think, feel, and act as they do. Therapy is a process of self-reflection that leads to personal growth and healing. You feel more confident, competent, emotionally stable, and surefooted, and it shows.

I have over 15 years experience working with teens and adults with a vast array of mental health issues including depression, anxiety, trauma, grief and loss, addiction, adjustment disorders, mood disorders, attachment issues, and low self-esteem.
In the last few years, we have seen an increase in individuals experiencing stress, sadness, and frustration that can be impacting their careers, relationships, health, finances, and life satisfaction. Whether it is feeling the need to be perfect, procrastinating tasks, disconnection within your marriage, distracted in thought, or feeling unmotivated to get out of bed in the morning, we can work together to identify origins of these issues and then solutions to healing. Reaching out for help can be the most difficult part of the healing journey. You don't have to do it all alone.

Cory Dolley is a Licensed Social Worker in Illinois who has been practicing since 2019. Cory just wants to be able to help give people a fighting chance to have a healthy, happy, productive life. Perhaps you are someone in your late 20's to 60's and are not used to asking for help because you were taught early never to show vulnerability. Perhaps you are dealing with unacknowledged trauma from years ago that was never seriously addressed. All you know is that you are in pain, and that pain is affecting all your other relationships, making it harder to reach out to others, hard to trust anyone.

Addiction Therapists

What is the best therapy for addiction?

Addiction treatment will be tailored to the individual. People seeking help for addiction—whether with a psychotherapist, in an outpatient clinic, or in a residential program—should expect to engage in multiple types of treatments, sometimes including medication. For anyone recovering from addiction, avoiding situations in which one has typically used a substance is essential, as is the support of close connections. Since substance use disorders tend to co-occur with underlying mental health conditions such as anxiety or depression, those must also be addressed as part of any recovery plan.

How long does therapy for addiction take?

There is no set timeline for recovery from addiction. Patients and their families should expect the work to last several months, if not longer. Residential treatment programs may be based on a stay of 30, 60, or 90 days, with continuing work after release, but only about 1 percent of people are treated in such facilities. Ceasing use is just the first step; therapy to help maintain abstinence and effect behavior change must follow. The process of recovery, neuroscience has shown, involves brain cells recovering the capacity to respond to natural sources of reward and restore control over the impulse to use. Another definition of recovery is restoring voluntary control over one’s substance use and retaking all of one’s previous responsibilities.

How effective is drug addiction treatment?

Substance use disorders are treatable and remission is achievable for many who seek recovery; by some estimates, more than three-quarters of people who become addicted to alcohol or drugs recover. But that success rarely occurs quickly or on a set timeline; relapse is not only common, but many therapists and clinicians view it as a normal part of the process—not always a sign that a person has returned to addiction, but a signal that their treatment should be adjusted to help them regain control. Overall, research suggests, five years after the end of substance use, one’s risk of relapse is no greater than that of others who had not faced addiction. Other experts believe that complete abstinence is not the only measure of recovery, and that, through effective treatment, many people can learn to control their use.

How can you get addiction treatment for someone?

The most important factor in recovery from addiction is widely understood to be an individual’s commitment to change. For that reason,“interventions” in which friends and family gather to urge or force someone to begin immediate treatment often backfire; even when such efforts do lead someone to begin treatment, they may be less likely to stay than those who are self-driven. Still, family members can play an important role in supporting an individual who seeks help and can take part in family therapy as one element of a loved one’s treatment.
