Being vulnerable takes tremendous strength and opening yourself up to create an authentic and genuine life requires conviction. I work with couples in premarital and marital counseling, as well as helping all adults with relationship issues. Issues like infidelity, lack of intimacy and communication struggles are common and together we can work to resolve them. My goal is to help you rebuild your relationship into something much healthier than before. I also help adults with grief, chronic illness, anxiety and depression.

When life feels overwhelming and out of control, therapy can be an incredible way to help you take control and gain the skills to help you handle future life stressors, whether personal or in your relationship. My goal in therapy is to help you feel supported, comfortable, and heard as we work together. Finding the right type of therapy is essential depending on the person and what help they are looking for. I want my clients to get what they want out of our time together, and to do that I feel it is important to build a trusting and open relationship.

We all struggle at times. Having a compassionate and objective person help you process your thoughts and feelings will result in increased clarity and peace. Clients have come to me with grief, addiction, trauma, depression, anxiety, relationship problems, and many other challenges. My approach is caring, collaborative, motivational, and creative. I have learned the most from my clients and as I continue to grow professionally, I incorporate more holistic approaches, such as meditation and somatic therapy. I look forward to earning your trust, developing a rapport, and working with you to realize your best self.

While both direct and supportive, I tailor my approach based on the individual needs of each client. Whether child, teen or adult, I feel it is a privilege to help clients find healing and happiness.

I believe that therapy is a unique place to take a breath and a step back to figure out the direction to go. Life is a journey with both highs and lows. I believe that everyone can improve their lives and enjoy helping others identify the changes needed to better themselves. I am down-to-earth, relatable and genuine. I also enjoy pointing out the irony of everyday life and getting my clients to laugh at times. I believe therapy is beneficial to everyone and practice it myself.

I work from a person-centered framework while including principles from other treatment modalities including DBT, ACT, ERP, the Gottman Method & CBT.
Taking the first step towards therapy can be difficult but also necessary. I am here to make that process a little bit easier & more comfortable. I recognize that each individual is unique and it's important to meet each client where they are on their journey of healing, by recognizing & understanding their reasons for coming to therapy. Whether it be difficulties with anxiety, depression, relationship issues, body image concerns, eating disorders, trauma, grief, life transitions, etc. I’m here to help support you as you navigate these concerns. My hope is that you leave therapy with the growth and tools that you are looking for.

I offer a strengths-based, integrative approach, which also includes expressive arts therapy and the Gottman method for couples, where appropriate.
An Invitation to come as you are...Sometimes it's easy to forget or move away from who you are and your story. There are many life circumstances that may impact and influence how you feel about and perceive yourself as well as others. Shame, guilt, fear, anxiety, anger, disappointment, sadness, illness, grief, loss and broken relationships are a part of many peoples' life stories yet sometimes it can be difficult to accept those parts of one's journey. I invite you to come with all the pieces of who you are and share your story.

I work primarily with adolescents (ages 10-25), marriages, and men's issues. I currently supervise a team of therapists through Unbroken Family Counseling. I work within this team and, when necessary, work with schools, psychiatrists, and other community resources to help my clients. My ideal client is a teen who doesn't think he/she needs counseling, a marriage that is on the rocks, or a guy dealing with guy stuff (guys know what I'm talking about). If I cant help you I can help find someone who can.

Gottman Method Therapists

How does the Gottman method work?

One of the core doctrines of the Gottman method is that negative emotions hurt relationships about five times more than positive emotions help them. Thus, couples require five times more positive interactions than negative interactions with each other. The therapist will guide clients on how to improve communication and understanding of each other to manage conflict and have their emotional needs met. The therapist will also advise couples on how to repair relations with each other when conflict arises, and therefore avoid lasting damage.

Is the Gottman method evidence-based?

Yes, this method is an evidence-based approach to couples therapy. The method is based on more than 40 years of research by Drs. John and Julie Gottman, the psychologists who developed the method. The Gottmans analyzed decades of data to draw conclusions about what types of interactions are likely to lead to specific results, and which interventions are most likely to lead to success. Studies have found that this approach leads to improvements in relationship satisfaction, intimacy, communication skills, and a lower rate of divorce.

How long does the Gottman method take?

The duration of treatment depends on the specific challenges clients face. Sessions are typically 60 to 90 minutes long, and an average course of treatment is around 10 sessions. In some cases, such as for couples dealing with a critical problem, the therapist will suggest an intensive course of treatment, with daily sessions over the first two to four days. Treatment is complete when the couple is satisfied and has met the goals they’ve set, and when the therapist believes they have the skills to continue on their own.

Is the Gottman method effective?

Through the Gottman method, couples can achieve changes that are real and sustainable. This treatment has been used for more than 40 years; the method is supported by empirical research, including randomized controlled trials that have demonstrated effectiveness in improving relationship outcomes for couples. Like any talk therapy, success or failure depends in large part on how committed the clients are to making positive changes and working toward results.
