I am passionate about working with grief and loss, as well as navigating parental illness.
I work with clients who are ready to regain joy, feel better, and move forward from the past. Clients who are ready to take the next step in their healing journey, but might need a little help along the way are typically a great fit. I use a strengths-based perspective to help improve the skills clients already have in order to help them create a happier and healthier life for themselves and/or their families. I offer my services to children, teens, and adults who are seeking help for grief and loss, trauma, depression, and anxiety.

Life is full of transitions and they can be extremely difficult. It can be easy to feel overwhelmed, discouraged and like nothing will ever get better. Even when the transition is your choice - like a new job, going back to school or having a baby, it can feel like you will never settle into a new normal. That can be even more challenging when the transition is not your choice - like divorce, chronic illness, struggling with infertility, or trauma and loss. Transition can be even more overwhelming when it feels like you are going through it alone and don't have any support.

Change is a major source of stress and life is full of change. I believe one of the most helpful applications of therapy is to help clients deal with the changes they experience and incorporate them into their lives-children growing up and leaving home (the client might be the parent or the child), relationship changes, job-related change, dealing with death, or any other changes that challenge you. I offer a safe place to express your feelings about the changes in your life and strive to be a non-judgmental companion through that process.

Currently, the anxiety, fear and grief we feel from the Coronavirus can turn serious, threatening your mental health.
You’ve experienced some traumatic events in your life. Immediately afterwards, you might feel shock and denial. Longer term reactions might be unpredictable emotions, flashbacks, strained relationships and even physical symptoms like headaches or nausea. It can be hard to move on with life. I can help you find positive ways to manage your emotions. I am trained in trauma treatment and in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), a psychotherapy that enables people to heal from the symptoms and emotional distresses that are the result of disturbing life experiences.

Grief Therapists

How long does therapy take for grief?

There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.

When should you seek therapy for grief?

Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.

Can grief be managed without therapy?

Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.

What happens if grief is left untreated?

Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
