You feel as though you're dragging your feet while trying your hardest to push through each day. You seem to be having more downs than ups lately. A relentless stream of anxious thoughts is weighing you down, consuming more and more of your day, and making it difficult for you to feel focused and motivated to get stuff done. You feel less and less like yourself, and you don't seem to enjoy the things you used to. You worry that nobody will understand what you're feeling, or maybe you don't want to feel like a burden to others, so you keep this all to yourself. You long for the day you wake up and finally feel whole and alive again.

I take a empowering approach to the therapeutic process, and believe that each client is inclined towards healing and growth. It is my job to act as a guide, helping clients clear the path toward uncovering their innate ability to heal and grow, and to find the tools to stay on the path of change. I believe identifying unhelpful patterns and addressing wounds is a critical step in thriving after these experiences, and will empower clients to move forward with the future.

Never ending, excessive worries that can fully consume your mind and make it difficult to focus on anything else. Feeling immensely tired, drained and unmotivated to get through the day. Longing for the moment when you wake up and feel like yourself again.

As humans, we all face an array of challenges, experience pain and suffering, and sometimes, find ourselves feeling alone in the dark, helpless and hopeless. I understand asking for help can be the most terrifying and uncomfortable decision we have to make during these times. As a therapist, it is my goal to empower my clients through these hardships, to find the light. I am invested in and unafraid to provide the deep connection and nonjudgmental space essential to think, feel, and work through any fears and challenges appearing in the way of achieving your goals.

I have a strong belief in the human spirit, and that individuals inherently possess the ability to make very powerful changes in their lives. I help to provide effective tools for transforming negative self-talk into a more motivating and inspiring internal process. I gently challenge habitual emotional reactions that tend to hijack a person's ability to think clearly. Once a person is able to manage these struggles a bit better, he/she/they are able to achieve better emotional regulation and make optimal choices toward personal growth and well-being.

I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) with a passion for helping adults process experiences, overcome depression and anxiety, and heal from past traumas. I approach clients from a humanistic perspective that acknowledges how societal pressures can influence a person's worldview and how they engage with others. I am trained in CBT and DBT. I also use principles of attachment theory and psychodynamic theory to address the root causes of defense mechanisms and coping methods. I earned a BA in Sociology from Southern Illinois University and an MSW from the University of Illinois at Chicago's Jane Addams College of Social Work.

I believe that all people have the potential to overcome whatever obstacles are in their life path, and I believe our relationship is a very important factor in helping you overcome those obstacles. So with that in mind, I will initially spend time just getting to know you and helping you feel comfortable and understood. You can expect a compassionate listener who will help you express issues that sometimes are uncomfortable to talk about. I will also help you establish goals for our work together that will be clear from the beginning of your treatment until the end.

From my own personal journey, I have a passion for working with those confronting uncertainties around their sense of identity and how they express themselves. These uncertainties may be from issues related to gender identity and sexuality, difficulties with body image, or feeling lost in the transitional stages of life. I deeply value understanding the unique background of every individual and how the intersectionality of various identities impacts the equally unique nature of everyone's lived experiences. I believe this understanding is the key to developing an effective approach to finding and living as our most authentic selves.

Strength-Based Therapists

How does strength-based therapy work?

During strength-based therapy sessions, the therapist will ask about an individual’s experiences of stress, pain, or trauma with the goal of orienting the client to view themselves as a survivor rather than a victim, and focusing on their strengths rather than on their weaknesses. In framing a client’s personal narrative along these lines, the therapist and client work together to identify existing skills that can be harnessed.

Is strength-based therapy evidence-based?

Strength-based therapy is an evidence-based treatment that has been studied extensively and shown to be effective across domains. The treatment has been found to be particularly effective in helping individuals who are experiencing stress, anxiety, depression, trauma, and other mental health concerns. Strength-based therapy has been used by therapists to help clients for more than 60 years.

How long does strength-based therapy last?

There’s no precise timeline for strength-based therapy. The duration of treatment depends on the individual’s specific needs and goals and the severity of their concerns. Some individuals may find they achieve their therapeutic goals quickly, while others might benefit from ongoing support and guidance in order to continue progressing.

How effective is strength-based therapy?

Clinical research and decades of practice have shown strength-based therapy to be an effective treatment to improve mental health and well-being for many conditions. The treatment can engender a sense of connection and collaboration between the therapist and the individual, fostering a positive therapeutic relationship. For individuals with narcissistic tendencies, strength-based therapy may be less effective, as the focus on the individual’s strengths may undermine the work needed to honestly assess the challenges the individual faces.
