Hello! I'm Kelly. I have worked with people from all walks of life. From childhood when your family is your whole world, to growing up and realizing the world is scary, and finally to those golden years when we are looking at what comes next. I believe everyone could use someone to talk to, even if we feel so small.

In working with couples and families, I practice strategic family therapy, to help clients learn specific positive interventions to communicate better, resolve issues more quickly and calmly, and find joy in our relationships again.
The best compliment I ever received was that I’m the “human embodiment of a cup of tea.” I bring that same warmth, compassion, and calm to every counseling relationship.

Life can sometimes feel too difficult to navigate alone, and having a supportive and safe outlet can make all the difference. Relationship struggles, life purpose, grief and loss, identity issues, family dynamics, chronic illness, and other stressors can be overwhelming, but with counseling, they can be transformative. I am passionate about working with anyone experiencing emotional hardships and understand how effective therapy can help. I welcome all orientations and walks of life experiencing mental health concerns. I bring 25 years of experience in the medical field to counseling and value the power of the mind-body connection.

As a transgender therapist, one of my passions is working with clients who identify as part of the LGBTQIA+ population. I enjoy collaborating with individuals who are exploring their gender and/or sexual identities and hope to offer guidance and compassion as they let go of any residual societal expectations. I have undergone the entire process of hormones, top surgery, and bottom surgeries, and I am open with my clients about my experiences as we work to decrease their gender dysphoria and move toward the eventual goal of gender euphoria.

I'm glad you are here, and I am excited to get to know you! I know this step forward can be hard. It can feel impossible to find the trust and security needed to open up and let someone (maybe even yourself) see YOU. Let's take a look at that feeling and see what we can do. I am confident we can get there. You can utilize our therapeutic relationship to build insight into yourself, and the confidence to show the world who and what you find!

I identify as a queer person of color and hope to best serve those communities who feel underrepresented in professional fields. Common areas that I work with are trauma, gender identity and expression, career related difficulties, couples/interpersonal relationship issues, and mood/anxiety disorders. I work heavily with the linguistic ways we approach "problems" and through a narrative and solutions focused approach we would work on restoring your sense freedom as you navigate life's difficulties.

Family Therapy
What do family therapists do?
A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.
How long does therapy for families take to work?
Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.
How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?
You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.
Is therapy for families effective?
Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
