As a counselor, I believe that you are the expert in your own experiences and that our lived experiences teach us about the life that we want to curate for ourselves. As your counselor, my approach is to assist you by asking you questions to help you discover or rediscover your purpose in an empathetic and curious way. We co-create an environment of exploration by finding ways to encourage authenticity in our space so that we can explore the root causes of behaviors in an environment of care and compassion. During our process, we do work to untether you from toxic patterns so that you may experience what life has to offer you.,

No one is exempt from suffering and I cannot make the hard things go away. However, I hold the intention of walking with and assisting my clients in the exploration of themselves and nurturing the power that is already theirs.

I’m Tonye Denise Lattimore, the curator of Get Your Mind Right Therapy Services. I work best with clients who have experienced relationship, religious, and childhood trauma (can include abandonment, domestic violence, rape) which has in turn affected how you relate to yourself and to the world. Trauma has a way of showing up in our relationships and within ourselves, oftentimes appearing as lack of trust, cutting other’s off, disconnects, addiction of all sorts, isolation, anxiety, and depression. If you are ready to do your healing work, I would love to partner with you.

I offer clients warmth, compassion, and gentleness: Whatever is hard for you right now is welcomed in a space that allows you to be accepted completely for who you are. I provide therapy for adults who struggle with the impact of childhood emotional injury, relational wounding, loneliness, trauma, parenthood challenges, divorce, career struggles, marriage issues, grief, anxiety, and depression. Unresolved hurts show up as restlessness, sleeplessness, negative self-beliefs, loss of purpose, panic, anger, anxiety, and/or depression. Together we will create opportunities for healing, self-discovery and connection to a fulfilling life.

IIPC is a place that is as healing for our healers as it is for our clients. We believe humans thrive in connection and community, feeling seen and heard for who they are and what they have experienced. We are a diverse group of clinicians and inspiration-makers who know that to hold others in their process, we must also feel held. Staff are experts in their own identities, lives and careers. We are better clinicians by bringing our whole selves to our work.

I am obsessed with partnering alongside brave people who are motivated for a better life, become the architects to actually do it! We all come face to face with our personal "life stumbling stone" (a certain event, relationship, loss, difficult life situation), that we are unable to adequately cope with, using our own inner strength, resources, knowledge or willpower. Loss and adversity are a part of life, but it can be the architecture for a better, more fulfilling and joyful life, it just depends how we use it! With over 30 years working with clients, across the entire life span, let me coach you to create your best you!

Welcome All! I am a licensed clinical social worker. I earned my master’s degree in Social Work at the University of Illinois at Chicago. Understanding the difficulty of “seeing the light at the end of the tunnel” while dealing with issues, has driven me to become a therapist who could provide an unbiased, outside perspective to help others “see the light” at the end of their tunnel in order to aide in living your best life!

You feel lost. Entirely alone in your struggles, like no one can understand what you’re going through. You desperately wish you had a better handle on things and feel like a failure for your shortcomings. But this problem isn’t unique. The experience is so common that there are memes about it. Everyone struggles; it’s perfectly normal. Of course, knowing that doesn’t make those thoughts and feelings go away. But that’s where we come in.

Men's Issues Therapists

Is therapy for men different than it is for women?

Therapeutic treatments and types are the same for men as they are for women, with the same protocols followed and the same strategies employed. Discussing one’s feelings and emotions is an integral part of most therapies, and some men find doing so more challenging. Therapists can help clients through the process; some specialize in treating men for this reason.

How do you encourage a man to go to therapy?

It’s helpful to express your concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual’s behavior affected either himself or others should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.

How can men prepare for therapy?

Men can prepare for therapy by approaching the process with an open mind, being willing to talk about their challenges, and giving treatment the time to work. Before a session, an individual may want to reflect on how they’ve felt since the last session and what’s happened in their lives. It can be useful for men who struggle to recall their emotional states to write down notes between sessions about their response to a given event or how they were feeling at a particular time.

What should men know about the process of therapy?

One of the most common reasons men don’t seek therapy is the notion that there’s something wrong with them if they do. Men should know that just because they’re seeking therapy doesn’t mean they’re mentally ill or damaged in some way. In the same way people work on their bodies through exercise or a craft through practice, therapy can be a way to improve the mental and emotional skills needed to be productive and effective partners, employees, and people in all realms of life.
