You wake up feeling overwhelmingly paralyzed knowing that you have this never-ending “to-do” list that never seems to get done? You’re struggling to connect with your partner, family, and friends, and even yourself now that you are a mom. You feel stagnated, unhappy in the current space you are in. You're a new mom trying to find your community and your identity. It seems like everyone else just “gets it” or “has it” and you are just trying to make it.

I believe in creating a safe, non-judgmental space where clients feel free to let their true selves be seen. We all innately crave love, connection, and healthy relationships. We were not created to do life alone. I view each person as a holistic being, considering your mental, physical, relational, emotional, and spiritual health as we journey together towards healing, growth, and a meaningful life.

Sam specializes in working with children, adolescents, and young adults. However, she does have experience working with older adults, couples, and families. She has worked with a range of diagnoses from anxiety disorders to trauma related disorders to psychotic disorders. Sam believes that there is no such thing as one shoe fits all. This has guided her in taking an eclectic therapy approach to meet the needs of the individuals she works with.

We are living in a world that is forever changing. There is no stop or pause button to help us catch up or even adjust. We are constantly bombarded with various life challenges. Most times when we are in the middle of those challenges we forget to check in with ourselves. We forget to nourish our spirits, minds and body. When that happens it can lead us to a dark place where our traumas and how we deal with them come to surface. Counseling can help address all these things and more. I can provide a safe, non-judgmental space to help deal with those challenges. We can work together to help you create a plan that best fits your needs.

As a counselor, I believe that you are the expert in your own experiences and that our lived experiences teach us about the life that we want to curate for ourselves. As your counselor, my approach is to assist you by asking you questions to help you discover or rediscover your purpose in an empathetic and curious way. We co-create an environment of exploration by finding ways to encourage authenticity in our space so that we can explore the root causes of behaviors in an environment of care and compassion. During our process, we do work to untether you from toxic patterns so that you may experience what life has to offer you.,

Many people think that therapy is simply a place to vent about life’s problems. Or that only people with “problems” need therapy. This is not the case! Therapy is where you go to meet with someone who is trained and skilled in providing resources that help you navigate life’s challenges. Everyone can benefit from that type of support! To the person struggling with anxiety, imagine feeling so confident in yourself that everything in your life reflects that. To the person struggling with a traumatic past, imagine becoming so healed that you can handle whatever else life throws at you. If you want to work towards healing, contact me.

You didn't image a future without them. You thought your family would sit and watch the two of you exchange vows one day. The dreams you imagined with that person now haunt you. The pain of the separation became a hurricane. It shattered the house of love you built with your partner. Since the storm passed, all that remains is the wreckage your ex left behind. A cracked foundation, blown-out windows, and broken pictures on the walls. Now your memories center on the broken promises, growing mistrust, and the red flags you ignored. You're struggling to find closure and a new sense of self. If only love came with a manual.

Female Therapists
Does it matter what gender my therapist is?
In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.
Should I see a female therapist?
Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.
Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?
Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.
How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?
It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
