Hi, I'm Kate! I enjoy working with many different clients with varying presenting concerns. I work with children aged 8 and older, adolescents, adults, couples, and families. I have helped people struggling with anxiety, depression, relationship issues, adjustments and life changes, self esteem issues, and more. I particularly connect well with adolescent, young adult, and adult women, as well as men struggling with self expression or deep-seeded anxiety or mood issues. Working with adolescent girls is definitely a passion, and I have enjoyed working with them individually, in family therapy, as well as running various groups and workshops.

If you are the parent of a teenager who is having difficulties, a couple in conflict, or a just a person trying to figure things out, then please call me to setup an appointment.
I believe that people are, by our very nature, social beings. We all understand that there are trials and tribulations throughout our lives. Anxiety, depression, PTSD, marital strife, and other mental health concerns can arise even in the strongest of people and relationships. I utilize empathic listening and other skills to foster a safe, respectful, and caring environment for all my clients. In doing so, I hope my clients can safely explore the strength and resilience within themselves. I hope to help my clients grow and realize their potentials so as to be better equipped for life's journey.

Therapy is strange. That might sound like an odd thing to start with, but I wanted to be honest. Even I can admit that the entire idea of talking to a total stranger about one’s struggles seems strange sometimes. But at the same time, that’s often what people have done throughout history; going to their loved ones for support, talking to their Barber or Bartender, or even talking to a member of their Religious institution. There is just something inherently helpful when you sit down and talk to someone about what is going on in your life. What I try to do is provide a safe space for people to do just that.

I realize that for some clients, the decision to enter therapy is made during a stressful time. However, I believe that these times can be useful in serving as a catalyst for change that leads to a happier, healthier life. I am strongly committed to helping my clients achieve satisfaction in all areas of their lives. I use a practical and skillful approach to problem solving that enables my clients to identify and overcome obstacles impeding their personal growth. I assists my clients in embracing their potential and building on their strengths so that they may experience improved interactions with others and their environment.

My orientation towards psychology was born out of my own difficulties in life; I want to make sure that those who seek help are able to get it. That said, I do best with clients who are at their worst, rock bottom. Fear of death and existential concerns, intrusive thoughts and urges, powerful and intense emotions, chronic stress and fatigue, loss of sense of self, lack of meaning and purpose in life, not being able to tell what's real and what isn't, regardless what it is. Whatever is your breaking point is the point at which you can change your life forever, I can help you through that process. The only way out is through.

I have over 10 years of experience working with adolescents, women, and couples.
Life is made up of shaping experiences. Some of those events shape us for the better and other incidents leave scars that are hard to walk away from. As you consider whether counseling is for you, my hope would be that you know that you matter and deserve to be cared for. You do not have to face those experiences alone. For whichever reason has you on this page reading therapy bios, I hope you will see myself and this team at Rally Point Counseling as advocates that will partner with you in pursuing changes that will help you successfully get to your desired outcomes.

As you begin your search for a therapist, you may have thought something like, “How am I supposed to find the best therapist for me?” Perhaps you were told to look for a certain certification, a set of initials, or a particular theory on a website or bio. But perhaps you are still afraid of making the “wrong choice.” Here’s the piece of advice I give young people and their parents who are in situations just like yours– “Find someone you like.” Studies have shown that the biggest indicator of success is the connection made between the counselor and client rather than the theory or certification.

If you are reading this... then it's probably getting harder to ignore the little voice deep inside that's urging you to make a change. It's challenging you to stop the conflict in your relationship, to pay attention to the sadness and anxiety that just keeps getting stronger, it's asking you to change the way you're dealing with stress. These issues are interfering with mood, your performance at work and the way you deal with your children. You are losing yourself somewhere along the way and now something inside is yearning to be strong again!

Successful counseling occurs when you find a therapist you can connect with, who makes you feel heard and values your thoughts and goals for the future. A positive therapist who enjoys learning who you are, and building on your strengths. If you allow me to walk with you in your struggles and victories, I will give you fair and honest feedback, and will challenge you to attain your goals. My Masters Degree from Aurora University, my rich work experience, as well as my own life journey give me valuable insights and wisdom that help me relate to my clients.

There are varieties of reasons why people seek counseling, but no matter what the motivation, I believe they want and need to be accepted right where they are. I approach each person's unique story from a nonjudgmental position, as I seek to understand their perspective in an effort to help them overcome their challenges. Developing a therapeutic relationship is important as the client and I work together in deciding, developing, and pursuing agreed upon objectives. I consider it a privilege to serve others and help them for a time on their life's journey.

For some of us our internal dialogue with ourselves could be described as anything but kind. We can be critical, self-deprecating, or devaluing of our experience due to past traumas that have informed a part of who we are, shame or guilt associated with our identity, or fear of experiencing ourselves as selfish. At times we can be so angry with ourselves for feeling that we are trapped in a cycle of attempting to do enough for others to finally have permission to be ourselves. This anger can give way to burn out, isolation, depression, and resignation. It can feel impossible to break out of that space.

Being able to discuss our current challenges calls for a supportive conversation. Often these challenges contribute to depression, anxiety, and interpersonal conflicts if not addressed. I work with individuals from all walks of life whether you are looking for individual, couples, or group counseling; I will ensure that your voice is heard.

Teen Therapists

What does therapy for teenagers look like?

When a therapist works with a teenager, the pair will talk about what the teen is struggling with and explore solutions, which may involve interpersonal skills, coping strategies, medication, or lifestyle changes related to sleep, diet, and exercise. Different therapists employ different modalities, but most involve a combination of conversation and skill building.

How long does therapy for teenagers generally take to work?

There’s variability in teenagers’ experiences and challenges; some may begin to improve from therapy within a few weeks while others may take several months or longer. Teens can discuss their progress with their therapist periodically to assess how they’re improving and any changes to the treatment plan that could potentially accelerate that progress.

How do you encourage a teenager to go to therapy?

It’s helpful to express your concern and love while framing therapy as an opportunity to explore a tool that could help improve their life; just like they practice baseball or dance, now they can practice their emotional skills. Give your teen control over the process where you can—maybe by weighing in on choice of therapist and signaling that therapy involves confidentiality, so a parent need not know all that is discussed in sessions.

How do you prepare teens for therapy?

You can prepare your teenager for therapy by describing what the process will look like and setting expectations for timeline, if requested. You can explain that the first session may begin with an assessment phase, that they can describe their experiences but that the therapist will ask questions too, and that it may take time to feel comfortable opening up. Ask how they’re feeling about the process and answer any questions calmly and supportively.
