I believe that people have primary accountability for their own lives, and that within each of us is the power and capacity to make choices that will lead to happiness and fulfillment. However, sometimes there are obstacles that must first be overcome (for example, anger, depression, trauma, anxiety, sexual identity issues, relationship problems, etc.) to be able to make healthy choices. I assist my clients along their journey of self-discovery as they learn how to empower themselves to overcome their obstacles. They then are able to make choices that will lead them to the life they want to have.

Are you tired of obsessing over food and weight? There are so many messages that make us feel like we need to control our body size, above all else. Trying to figure out how to be healthy and take care of yourself can feel like an exhausting, uphill battle. It's not your fault and you don’t have to go through it alone. Wherever you are in your treatment process - if you have an eating disorder or are concerned about your body, your weight or food - I can consult to help you decide your next step. Therapy isn't just for those with a diagnosable eating disorder. If your relationship with your food is distressing, you may need support.

Do you feel you deserve more but can’t seem to ask for it? Do you feel you are always giving but does not receive enough in return? Do you feel exhausted managing career, family and relationships perfectly, leaving very little room for caring for yourself. You know you should speak up, you know you deserve to be promoted, cared more and paid more, but can’t seem find ways to express those needs! Others might even look up to you for all of what you do and are, but you feel like a fraud sometimes for how scared and stressed you feel. How can you feel happy when you don’t believe in yourself? You just want to be good enough and loved.

I have been in counseling practice for 25 years. Over this time I have noticed one constant theme: people often do not know how to address their emotional and relational pain. Unresolved emotional pain leads them to develop coping methods that increase their hurt and isolation. What if there was a way to make sense of this pain, learn to cope and even thrive, despite what life has offered? My passion is to help people understand themselves well and move to empowerment that brings hope and solutions, enabling them to thrive.

Creating a safe, calm, inclusive, and non-judgmental therapeutic space is part of my mission. As an embodied listener, I am honored to hold others’ stories in confidence and help uncover their deeply held understanding and expertise of their lives from a strengths-based perspective. I am particularly awed at the incremental freedom that comes from engaging stories of harm, trauma, and abuse. The beauty freedom produces led me to seek certification in narrative-focused trauma therapy and internal family systems.

I have helped children, adolescents, adults and families work through challenges due to anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, and PTSD from childhood trauma/traumatic events.
For many people, taking the first step in healing can be the scariest. Feeling disconnected from your body, having trouble doing things you used to enjoy and being present to the people in your life can sometimes feel like an obstacle especially when you are preoccupied with internal struggles. I meet my clients where they are at and holding space is one of the most important parts of a therapeutic relationship. Working through challenging topics with clients is a priority which enables my clients the ability to face their day/week in between sessions more effectively.

My areas of interest include: PTSD, trauma, child abuse, anxiety, anger, and parent child interactions.
ADULTS-We have all learned ways to survive this lifetime, including you. I know you are a survivor because you are reading this...but wouldn't life be better if you were thriving? Life can be overwhelming due to past events resurfacing, worry, anger, relationship issues, or difficult parent-child interactions. You can continue to survive these events...after all you've gotten this far, or you can learn to address these issues and ultimately thrive. I believe through the course of a positive relationship, therapeutic interventions, and a client's self determination, change can occur to help reach your goals.

Trauma and PTSD Therapists

When should I seek treatment for trauma?

Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.

How long does trauma therapy take?

Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.

What happens if trauma is left untreated?

Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.

Can PTSD come back after treatment?

It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
