I specialize in mood disorders, behavioral issues, ADHD, anxiety, trauma, grief and loss.
I work together with my clients on what is meaningful to them and honor the uniqueness of each person's concerns without judgment. Whether you are struggling with life transitions, healing past traumas, trying to improve your relationship or looking for parent guidance, I work hard to provide a safe space for you to reach your goals. I am versed in many evidenced-based practices: play therapy, DBT, CBT, mindfulness, ACT, and tailor therapy around your goals and needs.

I often say it is my job to help make life better. Whether you are worrying too much ( anxiety), feeling sad (depression), or dealing with trauma, I will do just that: Help make life better. I have experience with children, adolescents, adults and families and have worked in both the school system and in full-time private practice. My style is practical, and focuses a lot on coping mechanisms and strategies. I have had much success working on a variety of issues as noted below. I enjoy assisting in the progress and achievement of attaining goals. My COVID mission has been "always an opening" and now have associates too!

I love working with individuals who are struggling to break free of old habits, patterns of behavior, or relationships that are no longer serving them. Often it takes getting to the "end of our rope" with things to find that we have the most motivation to change. Making changes can be really scary and anxiety provoking, even when we know what we've been doing up until this point isn't working. I like being that supportive partner that helps a client figure out what isn't working, what they might like to change, and how. I value moving at a client's pace, in their direction, and in pursuit of their own vision for their life.

I specialize in working with adults, young adults, and adolescents who are struggling with eating disorders and body image, depression, anxiety, ADHD, life transitions, relationship issues and sexual identity.
My first goal in the therapeutic process is to create a trusting, safe and collaborative relationship. Through active exploration, it is my hope that you will uncover insight into thoughts, emotions and behavior that will empower and support you in transforming your life. I recognize the difficulty of developing and maintaining a sense of self that reflects a value of inner worth rather than outer societal or familial ideals and expectations. My intention is for you to become the person you really are and from that place, make choices leading you towards a greater sense of wholeness, peace and well-being.

I specialize in the treatment of anxiety disorders, OCD, and PTSD.
When we live our lives in a state of constant fight-or-flight, we can go into survival mode. Worries, phobias, panic attacks, trauma, obsessive thoughts, avoidant behavior, and/or repetitive/compulsive behaviors can make us feel hopeless and helpless. We can find ourselves overthinking, overanalyzing, and feeling powerless. If you're feeling like life hasn't been moving in a positive direction, find yourself in a state of hypervigilence due to trauma and/or frozen by fears and uncertainty, you CAN find your way out - sometimes we just need some extra support to do so.

I typically work with adults and young adults who are experiencing anxiety, stress, depression, trauma, narcissistic abuse, burn out, are feeling stuck, or are wanting to grow.
As a therapist who is trained in psychology, education, and theology, I thoroughly enjoy working with people who are sorting through life transitions, asking questions about where they find meaning and value in life, and those who feel stuck in patterns that are preventing them from growth. I am really passionate about joining people in their exploration of healing, discovery, and growth no matter where someone is in their process. I am deeply committed to creating an environment of belonging and acceptance. I use a variety of approaches that include Mindful Self-Compassion, the Enneagram, and Psychodynamic theory.

I see therapy as an opportunity for fostering personal growth and achieving emotional maturity. We all face challenges and struggles at various points in our lives. Failure to overcome these challenges can lead to feelings of anxiety and depression and may impact one's relationship with family and friends. While we can't change the past, therapy can help uncover long-standing patterns and behaviors that can get in the way of fulfilling relationships with ourselves and others. I will help you understand the problems you are facing and find meaning and solutions that work best for you.

Treatment involves investing in your mental, physical, spiritual, and emotional well-being, and is well worth the effort! Developmental factors, relationships, grief, stress, anxiety, depression, transitions, and trauma all impact our natural ability to maintain balance and live happier and more satisfying lives. Often, the first goal of treatment is to identify the reason for problems. I conduct comprehensive neuropsychological testing across the lifespan, to clarify diagnosis, identify learning disabilities, and assess behavioral, emotional, and social problems, to provide concrete recommendations and an action plan for treatment.

Anxiety Therapists

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?

Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?

The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?

Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?

Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
