First of all, I love you and sincerely care about you. With my clients, I not only care about them, but am genuinely present and empathetically direct. Your perceived issues intrigue me because I know that whatever they are, it's related to the planet earth and being human. You want to talk and share with me your feelings—what's in your heart, mind and spirit. I want to listen and talk too; we can share our observations together. We will find that you are, and always have been, worthy and lovable.

I have a sincere passion for helping others through my personal experiences as a military veteran in three combat tours, overcoming drug addiction, and much more. I am no stranger to life’s trials and have even endured homelessness for a period. During one of the darkest times of my life, I made a commitment to use my experiences to empower others and provide hope. I am eager to give back after being afforded a second chance.

Many of my clients are wanting to explore and make changes intheir lives with a goal of understanding themselves and others. Depression, anxiety, stress and anger are not uncommon. Often they are helped by expressing themselves in a nonjudgemental environment to openly discuss and consider their options.

Other areas of experience include addressing challenges related to trauma, grief and loss, and life transitions.
I believe the answers to life’s challenges are within each individual, and my greatest joy is partnering with others to uncover any pieces that need to be addressed. Life is experiential, and I will often challenge my clients to seek and explore in order to find the answers. I utilize an integrative approach to health and wellness, and I believe challenges that impact the mind often impact the body and vice versa.

Cory Dolley is a Licensed Social Worker in Illinois who has been practicing since 2019. Cory just wants to be able to help give people a fighting chance to have a healthy, happy, productive life. Perhaps you are someone in your late 20's to 60's and are not used to asking for help because you were taught early never to show vulnerability. How long does therapy take for grief?
There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.
When should you seek therapy for grief?
Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.
Can grief be managed without therapy?
Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.
What happens if grief is left untreated?
Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
