I strive to develop a trusting and positive relationship with all of my clients.
I know how challenging it can be to reach out and start the process of therapy. I enjoy working with clients who experience a variety of needs from their therapist. This includes processing traumas, minimizing depressive symptoms, more effectively managing symptoms of anxiety, and more! It is important to come into a counseling setting with an open mind, and to remember that therapy is a very vulnerable process. Developing trust within a counseling relationship is an important foundation to reaching your goals in the counseling setting.

I am currently providing individual, couples, and group therapy in a private practice setting.
I believe that we all develop and possess our own unique stories that give our lives meaning. We are each the authors and experts of our own stories, but sometimes we can get stuck in stories that restrict our growth and possibilities. I strive to provide a safe and non-judgmental place for you to explore those stories and to rewrite them so that they better support your goals and values, empowering you to live out those values in meaningful and fulfilling ways.

I have 25 years of experience working with individuals and couples.
Hello! I know sometimes the most difficult part of beginning the counseling process is finding a caring and compassionate counselor with whom you can connect. Look no further. Stressors such as financial worries, family, relationship, or work concerns, and chronic pain or illness are just a few struggles that may change behavior and mood. I strive to create a warm, helpful, non-judgmental environment in which you will feel safe, supported, and heard.

I enjoy working with different clients including individuals, couples and families.
My goal is to create a counseling environment that encourages growth and healing. I work with clients to understand their situation and background in order to foster a strong therapeutic alliance. I believe in finding meaning in life even when it may be hard to pick out. I work from an existential perspective to help clients determine their purpose and create a space for them to work towards that purpose. I use the Heartmath techniques to help clients better understand their emotional responses as well as visualize their ability to self-regulate with EmWave Pro technology.

I specialize in adult-diagnosed ADD/ADHD, relationship difficulties, adjusting to life transitions (ie: married/divorced, new career, empty nest) anxieties, and early attachment traumas.
Through a collaborative and compassionate approach, I work to create a safe space where you can feel heard, understood, and validated. My goal is to help clients achieve their goals, improve their relationships, and enhance their overall well-being. We often look to the past to identify our core beliefs that guide our current worldview, priorities, and decision making. We have been learning these "core beliefs" about ourselves and the world since before we could walk and sometimes we stop integrating new observations and we become stuck. You can get unstuck with Shauna.

My specialties included psychodynamic therapy with individuals (adolescents and adults), couples, and groups often dealing with depression and/or anxiety.
Often people enter therapy because they feel stuck. They know what to do but it's just the 'doing it' that's hard. I have been working successfully with clients for 20 years and I love it. I focus on the importance of relationships as well as the achievement of individual desires. I offer in-person and teletherapy services.

Choosing a therapist is an incredibly personal decision. It has to feel right. Your relationship with me is the most important part of the therapeutic process. What you have experienced in your life, and now, provide a model to you of how you see the world, and how the world works for you. Therapy is a place where you get the incredible opportunity to either stay in your familiar comfort zone, or challenge and remodel parts of your mind that no longer serve you. I have a large respect for someone who pushes to heal themself, and seek growth. Self care is a powerful declaration!

Body-image concerns, eating disorders, trauma, anxiety, depression, and relationship difficulties impact our ability to grasp the life we long for. Simple pleasures such as enjoying time with friends, celebrating special moments, going out for dinner, hanging out with peers, or feeling connected to our partner can be a daunting or impossible prospect. Stepping into therapy can feel just as daunting, but it can be the beginning of grasping the life you deserve. I have worked with adolescents, teens, and adults to strengthen recovery from their eating disorder, improve body image, heal trauma, and strengthen relationships.

Couples Counseling Therapists

Does couples counseling work?

Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.

When should a couple seek counseling?

Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.

How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?

The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.

How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?

The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
