As a therapist, I enjoy working with children, teens, college students, young adults, and families on a variety of presenting concerns, such as anxiety & depression, transitioning into adulthood and the world of work, parenting, finding purpose and meaning, women's issues, and infertility.
Misconception: You only see a counselor when having a full blown crisis. Truth: Daily stress, anxiety, depression, overwhelm, anger, and worry are exhausting. Misconception: You're stuck with no options. Truth: You have the ability to make important changes in your life. Misconception: Everyone should be happy everyday or something is wrong. Truth: Adversity and failure is universal. Without it, we wouldn't recognize happiness. Misconception: It seems like everyone has a better life than me, more exciting, more amazing...more everything. Truth: Not likely.

I primarily work with anxiety, trauma, CPTSD, women's issues including PMDD, and sensory overload or overstimulation.
There are so many places in life where we may feel we have to mold ourselves to fit the expectations of others. I don't believe in therapy being another one of those places. I show up in the therapy room very much the same way that I show up everywhere else. I want my clients to feel comfortable being their genuine selves with me and often that becomes a part of the therapy. You deserve to have at least one place and one relationship where you can truly be yourself and know that your thoughts and feelings matter. My approach to therapy Is collaborative, empathic, challenging, and empowering.

I help my clients find peace of mind, gain insight, and be more present and grounded in their life to attain their goals and life purpose. I offer a therapeutic environment where clients learn to relax, feel safe, and then peel off the layers of a problem to become aware of the answers each client seeks. My specialties include stress, anxiety, trauma, grief, relationship issues, women's issues, academic problems, and chronic/health concerns. Together, we will examine how your thoughts, feelings, behaviors/actions, bodily sensations, and internal images affect the way you respond to others and within yourself (e.g., inner voice).

I specialize in working with individuals experiencing mood disorders, anxiety, mental illness, eating disorders, and women's issues including self-esteem and relationship difficulties.
I believe that every person has the right and ability to be happy in life, but that most people face obstacles at some point that makes happiness elusive. I have learned that no one better understands these obstacles and distressing emotions than those who are experiencing them. I, therefore, utilize a client-centered approach in therapy wherein I join the client in order to better appreciate his/her perspective and emotional state. I dedicate myself to my clients and helping them better define where they are in life and where they would like to go in the future.

We all arrive with a story. Stories shaped by our pasts and with hopes for the future. Our stories contain relationships, triumphs, failures. If you are here, perhaps you are hoping for something different in your next chapter. As your therapist, I will listen to your story nonjudgmentally, holding space for the pains and celebrating the joys. Using supportive and challenging reflection, we will explore obstacles that keep you stuck in a negative story. We will practice authoring change in the safety of the space we’ve created. Like any good story, there will be laughter and tears, and there will be a stronger character at the end.

Accepting NEW Clients: You gaze in the mirror and the person looking back at you is not person you expected to see. You have given up practically everything for everybody else. You keep saying yes to others, and you constantly say no to yourself and your own needs. You feel you can’t do it anymore. You cry for help, but nobody bothers to listen. You feel like even those you used to be closest to do not understand what you are going through. You fell down into a dark hole, and no matter what you do, you can’t seem to climb out of it. You are not exactly sure when it happened or how it happened, but you somehow lost yourself.

Women's Issues Therapists

How do you encourage a woman to go to therapy?

It’s helpful to express concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual may be suffering, and what effects it has on them, should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.

How can women prepare for therapy?

Women can prepare for therapy by being willing to talk about their past experiences and their private thoughts. Before a session, an individual may want to reflect on how they’ve felt since the last session and what’s happened in their lives. Between sessions, it can be useful to write down notes about their reaction to a given event or how they felt at a particular time.

How long does therapy for women’s issues often last?

As with any type of therapy, sessions depend on the individual and the challenges they face. Therapy types like Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), Prolonged exposure therapy (PET), and Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) can be brief, most often ranging from between 5 and 20 sessions. In some cases, such as for women with eating disorders, residential treatment may be recommended for an individual who is judged to be at high risk of self-harm. For any therapy, the duration will depend on the progress made and results realized.

How can women overcome stigma around specific challenges in order to seek therapy?

Women dealing with domestic abuse, sexual assault, eating disorders, and any other number of troubles may feel a stigma around seeking help. It’s important to remember that these issues are not uncommon and there is no shame in getting help for them. Therapy is confidential, and women can talk about their experiences without fear of judgment. Seeking therapy can be a courageous and liberating act, and an important step toward healing and recovery.
