I truly enjoy working with children and adolescents and their families.
Is your child acting out, mad, or sad? Are they not listening? Are they going through a difficult time and need help to get unstuck? Maybe they are not connecting well enough socially? Perhaps you're just concerned about them and you want a professional child therapist to provide insight and therapeutic support? If your child is depressed, moody, anxious, or has social issues, I am here. I am a best fit for you if you are looking for a child-specific therapist who will provide your child with play and talk therapy while keeping you activated in a strategy that supports the changes we make in the therapeutic practice.

At times, challenges in life seem to be obstacles to our fulfillment and happiness, though in reality these obstacles present opportunities – opportunities to reflect, change and grow. These changes can make us more resilient and make our lives more manageable and meaningful. During these troubled times we often believe that nothing can help. We see our situation less clearly due to our distress and are unaware of our options. But with the guidance of a trained therapist we can discover the gift of working on ourselves. My experience has proven time and again that therapy can be a life changer.

I love working with kids and teens (5-21) with all types of anxiety, struggling with self-esteem, relationship problems, and depression.
I provide therapy for children, teenagers and young adults. I believe all children/ teens need time and space to be seen and heard. I provide a supportive space where families and their children are welcome to explore their therapy goals and improve their lives. Therapy works best when the relationship between counselor and client is authentic, trustworthy, and secure. Helping every child/ teen feel good about themselves is the groundwork in my sessions. I believe that all children and teens want to be seen, feel like they matter and are worthy.

I believe that, without exception, every individual carries within, the capacity required for healing to occur. As a therapist, it is my honor and privilege to help clients and their families uncover and understand the meanings and feelings associated with their symptoms. Whether the primary client is a child, adolescent, or adult, I work collaboratively with couples/parents to create a treatment plan that is right for the family as a whole. From this perspective we can then work together to discover more adaptive and creative ways to solve problems, build relationships, and live rich and fulfilling lives.

When individuals or couples first come in to see me, they are often anxious, depressed or scared. They may feel confused or uncertain about the future. Coping skills that used to work "OK" no longer seem to be sufficient. Some people can point to a specific cause or event, but others find it difficult to identify or talk about underlying concerns - particularly if they have endured a trauma. Therapy offers a warm, safe and compassionate space for exploration of feelings that can be too difficult or too heavy to hold without support.

Life brings many stressors, and we could all benefit from a safe and supportive place to sort out our feelings and process our concerns. In counseling, I aim to provide my clients with a warm and non-judgmental space to be genuinely heard so they can feel free to communicate openly and authentically. It would be best to share your life story, perspective, and goals at your own pace, with appropriate encouragement and therapeutic challenges when necessary. The relationship we develop with ourselves is the most crucial and influential in shaping our day-to-day experience.

We offer counseling for individuals, couples and families, children, adolescents and adults.
Even the Courageous Can Hurt! You are on this page, most likely, because you are hurting. Perhaps you suffered a loss, or are at a loss, anxious, depressed or confused by the direction your life is taking. Maybe your pain is due to your own choices or actions. Perhaps it is caused by the choices and actions of others. Sometimes things just happen. Seeking help means you are taking responsibility for your happiness and well-being. That is the first step in healing and it is courageous. We recognize that you are in pain and provide an environment where you feel safe to peel away the layers of your hurt.

I see clients ages 12-80+, who may be dealing with depression, anxiety, relationship problems, family problems, life stage issues, chronic illness, or grief. As we explore your situation, we will learn more about the current problem, and how it is similar to or different from experiences you have had in the past. Your usual ways of solving problems may not be working now. As we reflect on your characteristic responses to people and situations, we will consider changes you can make that will help you get more of what you are looking for in your life.

Teen Therapists

What does therapy for teenagers look like?

When a therapist works with a teenager, the pair will talk about what the teen is struggling with and explore solutions, which may involve interpersonal skills, coping strategies, medication, or lifestyle changes related to sleep, diet, and exercise. Different therapists employ different modalities, but most involve a combination of conversation and skill building.

How long does therapy for teenagers generally take to work?

There’s variability in teenagers’ experiences and challenges; some may begin to improve from therapy within a few weeks while others may take several months or longer. Teens can discuss their progress with their therapist periodically to assess how they’re improving and any changes to the treatment plan that could potentially accelerate that progress.

How do you encourage a teenager to go to therapy?

It’s helpful to express your concern and love while framing therapy as an opportunity to explore a tool that could help improve their life; just like they practice baseball or dance, now they can practice their emotional skills. Give your teen control over the process where you can—maybe by weighing in on choice of therapist and signaling that therapy involves confidentiality, so a parent need not know all that is discussed in sessions.

How do you prepare teens for therapy?

You can prepare your teenager for therapy by describing what the process will look like and setting expectations for timeline, if requested. You can explain that the first session may begin with an assessment phase, that they can describe their experiences but that the therapist will ask questions too, and that it may take time to feel comfortable opening up. Ask how they’re feeling about the process and answer any questions calmly and supportively.
