Are you struggling with balance in your life? Do you find yourself feeling overwhelmed by the demands of everyday life? If you have a handle on things some days, but other days feel overwhelming and out of control, you have come to the right place. Maybe you are struggling to find meaning or connect with friends or loved ones. Possibly a recent change or life transition has upset the delicate balance in your life. Welcome to the first day of change. Seeking help is the first day where change is possible because you are already doing something different, which is acknowledging you need help. 20 years ago I was in your same position. I walked into my first AA where I was ready to get serious about recovery. As of April 2023, I will celebrate 20 years sober and believe in the abstinence model of change. Because it works once you are ready to take back control over your life. Of course, there is always the option to keep digging - but let me tell you, climbing is much more satisfying.

Beginning therapy is not easy. I am here to listen to your story and to how you experience the world. I believe it is important that people feel safe in the therapy relationship before processing difficult moments. I will companion you through exploring times in your life that are hard to talk about, and will gently nudge us forward so that you can move onto the path that feels safest to you. I have witnessed brave individuals share their stories and work at finding new ways to cope with the devastating impacts of trauma.

We provide evidence-based CBT/Exposure Therapy for anxiety disorders, specializing in social anxiety, selective mutism, separation anxiety, panic disorder, & related issues. The goal is to live a valued life in the presence of anxiety and, to do this, we treat the anxious-avoidance cycle you may find yourself in. Anxious avoidance is when a person avoids something that makes them anxious (which is normal and expected). However, when avoidance interferes with your life and keeps you from living out your goals, that’s when avoidance (not anxiety) becomes problematic. We are specialists who can help you learn how to approach vs avoid.

Female Therapists
Does it matter what gender my therapist is?
In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.
Should I see a female therapist?
Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.
Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?
Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.
How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?
It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
