Finding a therapist can be daunting. People often come to therapy seeking relief from distress. This might involve a difficult life transition, coping with a chronic health concern, or navigating challenging relationships with self and others. In addition to finding ways to alleviate this suffering, I create a safe and supportive space to look at and learn from this distress. This may involve finding patterns that have kept you struggling, healing from past harms, and exploring and expanding your existing strengths. I am particularly interested in collaborating with adults, teens, and parents seeking support for ADHD or OCD.

It's hard to know what someone will be like by simply reading a few paragraphs on a screen. Finding the right therapist is frustrating, so I will try my best to tell you who I am and how I can help. With a direct yet empathetic approach, we will address difficult topics using clinically proven treatment interventions. I will challenge and push you during sessions while saving room for humor because I believe that with this combination, we can find strength, resilience, and connection that help motivate us toward a more empowered future..

I have experience working with a variety of concerns including depression, anxiety, OCD, mood cycling, and simple & complex trauma.
As we walk through life, experiences are constantly being added to our “backpacks.” Our backpacks, at times, feel particularly heavy & uncomfortable, subsequently making daily experiences feel burdensome. I see therapy as a space to take off your backpack - a time to empty its parts and explore them with curiosity & self-compassion, hopefully putting them back inside feeling a little lighter. I aim to hold space for all parts of your backpack, carrying them with you in ways that are collaborative, warm, and affirming.

Part of the process of therapy involves understanding that it is not a cure-all, a balm for the wider systemic issues that plague our society. Being human requires courage to face up to the huge task that is simply living in a world that is overwhelming. Psychotherapy draws on more than psychology and the techniques of counseling, it draws on the whole experience of being human. As such, I find it important to incorporate the arts, philosophy, biology, and social sciences into my practice when relevant. My primary focus is helping clients build trust and a safe relationship with which to explore deeper and more sensitive topics.

Obsessive-Compulsive (OCD) Therapists

How long does OCD treatment take?

Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is often treated on a weekly or twice-weekly schedule, depending on symptom severity and the client’s preferences. Some clients may start to see a noticeable improvement in symptoms in as little as six weeks, but it’s also possible, especially in more severe cases, for treatment to take several months to a year before significant progress is made.

What happens if OCD is not treated?

Some people with OCD, especially those with mild symptoms, may find that they are able to adapt reasonably well to life with the condition, even if their symptoms never resolve completely. However, many people, particularly those whose symptoms are severe at the outset, find that their obsessions and compulsions grow more intrusive with time, making it harder to maintain relationships, hold down a job, or navigate the world successfully.

Are there medications for OCD?

Medication can be used to treat OCD. The class of drugs most often prescribed are selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, or SSRIs, which include fluvoxamine (under the brand name Luvox), fluoxetine (Prozac), and sertraline (Zoloft), among others. In cases of treatment-resistant OCD, other classes of medication, such as tricyclic antidepressants or atypical antipsychotics, may be prescribed. Medication is frequently used in conjunction with therapy.

Can OCD come back after treatment?

Yes. Major life transitions, periods of stress, or other factors can cause symptoms to return or, if they were never fully eradicated, to ramp back up in intensity. For some, these relapses are brief and do not require additional treatment; identifying specific triggers and practicing the skills learned in therapy can help speed their course. For others, returning to therapy for a brief period can help address the underlying stress and strengthen coping mechanisms.
