Many of the clients that I work with are people who are processing the factors that are impacting them as individuals today. Parent's are able to explore a space where they are validated and empowered. Much of the work that we do is rooted in identity and discovering what it is they need, not what they have been socialized into thinking they need. Together we explore experiences and dynamics that have occurred throughout their lifetime. Marginalized populations come to me to learn more about themselves and the ways in which they interact with the world around them including exploring family of origin issues.

Individuals coping with relationship stressors and changes in life circumstances (such as break-up, divorce, children leaving home, health, parents needing caregiving), anxiety, depression, self-esteem, trauma, grief and loss.
Life is all about relationships--beginning with the one you have with yourself. My goal is to provide a safe place for you to explore your underlying feelings leading to a better understanding and acceptance of who you are and who you can be. I will provide you a supportive relationship as you re-gain control of your life. Changes within often change relationships with others and that can be challenging, even frightening, yet rewarding. We will work together to strengthen emotional bonds with loved ones, cope with grief and loss, deal with trauma, and maintain a sense of inner balance.

Overall, I specialize in family systems approaches and anxiety, using CBT.
Therapy, from my perspective, is all about balance and curiosity. High hopes and occasional tough love balanced with gentleness and compassion for yourself and your loved ones. Embracing and working toward change while also accepting oneself and loving our immutable parts. Curiosity about why we are the way we are and where we might go from here, and the openness and vulnerability to get there. I view therapy as very much a collaboration -- I bring my expertise in therapeutic methods, you bring your expertise in your own life, and together we work to build the best future for you.

Do you struggle with anxiety, depression, a challenging relationship, or loss of a sense of self that affects your day-to-day life? Do you feel exhausted by just getting through the day and feeling like no one understands what you're going through? Do you wonder if that feeling could go away and you could feel better? Now more than ever people are feeling overwhelmed and anxious about finding their place in life and how to manage their emotions. I believe there is hope and answers, and people should not feel they have to figure things out all on their own.

I have particular experience working with trauma recovery and anxiety and perfectionism.
What if you could embrace all the parts of you, even the parts that are hard to like? What if you could feel curiosity towards your challenges, instead of fear or frustration? I’ve found that learning to listen to the body (in addition to thoughts, emotions) helps us discover and strengthen the resources you already have to make the changes you want.

Anxiety Therapists
What are the most common treatments for anxiety?
Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.
How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?
The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.
When should I seek treatment for anxiety?
Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.
How effective is treatment for anxiety?
Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
