Life gets hard, challenging, and overwhelming. For that reason, having someone that provides a safe, nonjudgmental space that embraces all of who we are to talk, discuss, and process our mental health concerns can help us heal. I am here to help with that! As a therapist, I can help guide and stand by your side through your healing process. I am a bilingual and bicultural (Spanish-English) Latina therapist that understands the importance of feeling heard, understood, and welcomed in a therapeutic space that embraces diversity.

Before I was a therapist, I was an educator. For one course, my job was to teach first responders how to get important information from potentially traumatized witnesses/victims. I often wondered what I would do if I were permitted to see the crisis through. I believe it's my combination of a solid background in communication-which includes relationships, gender-speak, assertiveness and self-talk-and my education in Clinical Psychology and Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor certification that provide for a well-balanced approach to individual counseling.

"I am a firm believer in finding balance between feelings, thoughts, beliefs, and actions. Sometimes what we are dealing with is simply present day stress, needing a safe environment to process and get feedback. Other times events from our past dictate our reactions to today's experiences. This leads to giving our power away and continuing to suffer. I practice cognitive behavioral therapy, as well as other approaches when indicated, always focusing on the client's goals. I am focused on respectful approaches to teaching tools that allow each client's efforts to result in positive impacts throughout their lives."

Hello! I currently do telehealth therapy for DC, MD, IL and SC. As an EMDR Certified Therapist and EMDR Approved Consultant, I understand our struggles are not about "what's wrong with us" but "what happened to us." Looking to resolve current symptoms sometimes means healing from the past, while strengthening resources in the present and preparing for the future. I work with children, adolescents, and adults - individually and in caregiver-child dynamics - and invite you to reach out for a free consultation!

You appear to have all your shit together on the outside, but you are a mess on the inside. You don't tell anyone how you really feel for fear of being judged. You are exhausted wearing the mask of the perfect imposter. You ask yourself, "Why is my best never good enough?" You want to believe God has a plan for you, but you're not even sure you believe in God anymore. I assure you, it is not just you. This real-time struggle is real. I know personally, there is hope. We all need the love of community to that hope. I look forward to hearing from you about ways I can help.

My ideal client comes from many walks of life. They are children, teenagers, and adults and present with anxiety, depression, adjustment disorders, borderline personality disorder, bipolar disorder, relationship and family problems, Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), school problems, and oppositional-defiant disorder. They all share a common need to be heard, empowered, and guided on the path of recovery. I provide evidence-based treatments tailored to the needs of my clients. I focus on strengths and capabilities rather than "illness."

Sometimes life throws you a curveball or two. Some people have been dealt a difficult card from the start. I believe we all possess the tools needed to get through times of adversity, but at times, may need a little guidance. Having an objective ally to cheer you on can really make the difference in reaching your goals and feeling confident along the way. I strive to create a stimulating, comfortable, and safe place for people to be vulnerable. I tend to have a relaxed conversational style, while using evidenced based materials and approaches. I am committed to jumping in the muck with you so we can find solutions together.

I specialize in working with issues such as childhood abuse, medical challenges, spiritual or existential questions, grief and loss, and navigating complex identities including stepparenting, LGBTQ+ issues, and blended families.
Life is a complicated journey, and I am fortunate to have the opportunity to walk with my clients as they navigate relationships, self esteem, life transitions, losses and change. My practice focuses on helping adults resolve difficult life experiences, whether from childhood or from the challenges of daily life or the inevitable transitions and changes of life as we grow older. I believe that therapy can help people break out of the set patterns of thinking and feeling that restrict us from living our life to our highest potential.

Domestic Abuse Therapists

What are the most effective ways to recover from domestic abuse?

Leaving an abusive relationship requires tremendous courage, so survivors in treatment should recognize that they have already completed the most important step. Still, the trauma of physical or emotional abuse can be difficult to process and overcome. Therapy can help survivors process trauma, grief, and difficult emotions, treat relevant mental health symptoms, and create a new framework for boundaries and relationships in the future. For some, support groups can also be an invaluable outlet for healing.

When should an individual seek help for domestic abuse?

Victims of intimate partner violence should seek help immediately. It can take substantial time, planning, energy, and courage to leave an abusive relationship, but starting the process—by seeking therapy, calling the domestic violence hotline, or simply confiding in a loved one—will help them get there. Those who have left abusive relationships but haven’t sought treatment can also greatly benefit from therapy to process and heal from the experience.

What are the consequences of staying in an abusive relationship?

Remaining in an abusive relationship has serious repercussions. In addition to the ongoing threat of physical danger and emotional abuse, research shows that intimate partner violence is associated with a range of mental health disorders including depression, post-traumatic stress disorder, anxiety, and substance abuse. Therefore it’s important for individuals in an abusive relationship to seek help as soon as possible.

How can you get domestic abuse treatment for someone else?

It can be very complicated to identify and leave an abusive relationship; barriers include the threat of violence, financial instability, and family pressures. Those concerned about a loved one in an abusive relationship should talk to them about the situation, provide them with resources such as the domestic violence hotline, and introduce the idea of seeing a therapist due to their concern for the person’s safety and well-being.
