I have extensive experience counseling clients through a variety of grief and loss issues. Whether you are reeling from the death of a loved one, a divorce, or any loss that is significant to you, I would like to help. They may feel overly emotional, extra sensitive, or broken. People working with me want to improve how they function in their daily lives, may have trauma, or other mental health difficulties. Additionally, parents who seek me out feel like their children are out of control, are struggling in school, have behaviors at home, or are struggling with life changes.

We all experience difficult times in our life, whether the difficulty is trauma from your past, relationship issues, stress or feeling overwhelmed. Those difficult times may bring sadness, hurt, anxiety, loneliness or anger. I can help you let go and work through those behaviors and patterns that no longer serve a purpose for you. I will strive to help you gain insight, clarity and acceptance in your life. Counseling can help you create the life you desire and deserve. Life is a journey that requires moments of reflection on where we have been in order to make decisions about where life can lead us next. Meeting with a therapist enables individuals and families the opportunities to be curious as to why patterns exist and encourages you to ask the questions - is this working for me? Would change benefit me? I am an attachment based therapist that works from a strengths base to encourage individuals to tolerate the discomfort that comes with introspection and inspire growth.

Dr. Jie Jiao is a Licensed Clinical Psychologist. She obtained her doctoral degree from the clinical psychology program and the rehabilitation psychology track at Illinois Institute of Technology. She has worked with a clinically and culturally diverse population in a variety of settings, ranging from a community mental health center to a multidisciplinary medical center. Dr. Jiao's theoretical orientation is primarily cognitive-behavioral. She integrates concepts and strategies from other theoretical frameworks (e. g. , interpersonal, psychodynamic) depending on the characteristics of the patient and the presenting problem.

I understand that asking for emotional help is one of the more difficult things you might ever do. I tell my clients that if they were in physical discomfort or pain they would call their doctor for relief, and to call a professional counselor is also a way to insure their health and well-being. With their hard work and my guidance I assure my clients that they will be able to work through past or current issues and will not have to remain stuck, that they can change.

Emotional health and wellness is inextricably intertwined with our physical health and wellness. As such, mental and emotional health services should be a priority for each of us. Counseling provides an avenue for self-reflection and growth that anyone striving to live a fuller and more fulfilled life can benefit from.

My style of therapy includes mindfulness, resilience, and helping clients find the strength that resides in all of us. I can and will be at times very blunt and to the point but I do know that this is your life being discussed not mine. I have an inclusive feminist background and am comfortable working with all genders.
