In addition to my doctoral degree, I hold a bachelors degree in elementary education from DePauw University and a masters degree in learning disabilities from Northwestern University.
I am passionate about helping individuals, couples and families both understand their challenges and create a pathway to healing. I believe the first step in this process is to find the right therapist and establish a trusting, honest, and mutually respectful relationship. I meet clients where they are and help them gain skills in such areas as emoitonal regulation, stress management, communication, parenting, problem solving and relaxation techniques.

To struggle is part of life, but not something you should go through alone. Mental health issues not only cause internal challenges but also difficulty with school, work, friends, family, and relationships. By allowing yourself to be supported, we can create a personalized treatment plan to fit your goals best. My therapeutic orientation is eclectic, but I integrate principles of evidence-based CBT, DBT, and ACT to bring lasting results.

The experience of intense and often painful emotions is a normal part of human existence, sometimes this struggle can become so overwhelming it begins to greatly impact one's ability to function, maintain and improve interpersonal relationships, and lead a valued life; leaving us feeling stuck. Therapy allows us to process these emotions, stop the experiential avoidance, and develop more constructive and adaptive ways of dealing with life's challenges and transitions. Through a collaborative, empathic, and values-based relationship, we can work towards increasing one's psychological flexibility, behavioral workability, and coping skills to live a life worth living

I want to help children, adolescents, adults, and their families learn to understand and cope with the problems that they are currently experiencing. I view people as individuals and am interested in a multifaceted treatment approach, including consultation with psychiatrists/physicians, schools, and other specialities. I utilize an ecletic therapy approach, including CBT and EFT. My predoctoral training was at a specialty hospital working with all ages suffering from brain injury and/or complex medical disorders. I also have experience working with adolescents and their families in crisis.

Today's children are faced with many pressures. Kids worry about lots of things-from being accepted by their peers and parents to worrying about academic pressures, ADHD, divorce, crime, drugs and illness. We understand these issues must be treated with great sensitivity-especially when working with children and adolescents. And that it is important that the therapeutic process be a positive experience in which young people feel safe and nurtured. Our goal is to help young people trust this process and understand that we're on "their team" as we help them successfully manage their world.

Often truly discovering your strengths and learning how to use them to help you succeed is empowering and motivating.
I love working with college age/young adults, and adults. At times, school, home life, and transitions to college or living on your own can be tough to navigate. Life can become overwhelming and we lose insight into our abilities to problem solve, stay organized, and cope with stress, anxiety, or depression. I want to work with you to improve your executive functioning skills, find and use your strengths, increase your self-esteem, re-develop and create new coping strategies, and utilize the resources and connections in your community so you feel supported and in control.

Children and adolescents are faced with many challenges. It seems as if they are constantly bombarded with information. They are often stressed and at times, lack the ability to communicate how they are feeling as they cannot put their feelings into words. I understand the needs of the children as well as the challenges as a parent. I provide various treatment modalities depending on the needs and treatment goals of each individual.

Education and Learning Disabilities Therapists

How effective is treatment for learning disabilities?

When initiated early and tailored to a child’s specific needs, learning disability treatment can be quite effective at helping a child cope with their disability, though its exact efficacy may depend on the severity of symptoms and whether comorbid disorders exist. Less is known about treatment initiated in adulthood, but it is certainly possible that an adult with a learning disability will see some improvement—or at the very least, identify workarounds and accommodations that could make symptoms less burdensome in day-to-day life.

When should someone seek treatment for learning disabilities?

It’s best to seek treatment as early as possible. Because learning disabilities often go unnoticed until a child starts school, or even until they’re a few years along, regular check-ins with teachers and doctors can help parents determine whether children are meeting milestones and keeping up with peers or whether an evaluation for learning disabilities may be warranted. And although earlier is always better, it’s never too late to be evaluated for learning disabilities and to seek treatment.

What happens if learning disabilities are left untreated?

Undiagnosed and untreated learning disabilities can be a source of significant frustration and shame for a child, who may feel that their challenges stem from a lack of intelligence or willpower. Such feelings can trigger low self-esteem, depression, or anxiety, which may push a child toward risky behaviors, including substance use. In adulthood, untreated learning disabilities can interfere with career success, and lingering feelings of self-doubt and shame can negatively affect someone’s mental health.

Are there medications for learning disabilities?

Currently, there are no medications designed to treat specific learning disabilities such as dysgraphia or dyscalculia. However, someone with a learning disability may be prescribed medication for a comorbid condition, such as anxiety, depression, or ADHD, which may have positive downstream effects on their learning disability; for example, a child with both ADHD and dyslexia may find that they’re better able to focus on their reading exercises after being prescribed a stimulant medication.
